1-800 New Funk the album

I never see any references 2 this album made here! Along with Goldnigger and Kamasutra, this must be the least discussed album!

Nona Gaye, Prince, George Clinton, NPG, Mayte and more!

Discuss!

probably becuz it's not a true prince album. just a complilation of songs he wrote for a number of acts that never got to be heard. for some, i'm thankful for that.
the first song just sucks.

MPLS is a wicked tune

Other than that, the album is patchy at best

"Standing At The Altar" is one of those "lost" Prince classics that the masses have never heard. It's excellent!

There are some other cool tracks..."Love Sign","Color" and "2Gether" are all top-notch tracks.Hey,thanks to the person who started this thread.I had totally forgotten about this CD but I'm gonna go play it right now!

I hope that he will released his own version of Standing At The Altar, I'm sure that back in the early 90s it would have been a hit

This album kinda get me depressed or something ... Like it or not, good or bad, this was probably the darkest moment in his carreer. There was a lot of pain going on while "Come" was released, the confussion about his name change and what the future might hold, the then never-to-be-released "Gold Experience", WB screwing prince, and so...

The music contained is NOT that great, come on. "Standing At The Altar" might be OK for AOR radios, but I expect something else from Prince. "Love Sign" was nice, but it should have been a simple single and that's it. "MPLS" has its juice, but now, nearly 10 years after it I don't find myself banging my head to it. The George Clinton track was also enjoyable at the time, but once again I don't really think it stands the test of time. "2gether" IS cool, but we have "Gold Nigga". "If Eye Love U 2Nite" is... well... is Mayte singing, damn!.

Nope, I guess I'm not going to undust my 1-800-New-Funk yet! wink

I agree, this song would have been a smash back then! However,I think it's better for a woman to sing it,instead of Prince...lol...perhaps he should have given it to somebody like Whitney or Mariah (two artists who really could have turned it into a smash hit back in '91).

Love Sign and Standing At The Altar are pure gems - I wish more people (the general public) would've heard S.A.T.A.
