Which Tour was better?? So I just watched the DVD for the Musicology Tour, and I have to say that I think it was better than "W2A" tour. I attended both and both were fantastic, but I think Musicology just had more SOUL and showcased some of the most amazing musicians P has ever worked with. He didn't need the twins or Shelby then, he just had Candy and the musicians! It also seemed like he connected with the audience on a seriously deep level. And he played longer versions, which I enjoyed. thoughts?

I enjoyed the W2A show more than the multiple Musicology shows I attended.
I attended both the Musicology and W2A tours in Oakland, so I can really compare how I felt they stacked up.
The reason I prefer W2A? The setlists. There was a lot more diversity in the W2A setlists from show to show than Musicology. Prince seemed to have more fun at the W2A shows and played a lot more guitar. I like the sound of his latest band better. Ida is a great funky bass player (no disrespect to Rhonda), and I like that Prince lost the horns. Yes, I said it.

While not personally present for any Musicology shows, I too feel the W2A shows were all around stronger and more exciting. Certaintly the most memorable of my life thus far. Could just be he was showing the Bay Area the love? I mean, a P show is unlike anything else, but those seemed pretty special even by P standards, especially Thursday night, holy cow.

Much respect to you delirious26 for attening both Musicology and Welcome 2 America concerts. I did go to the Musicology date here in Detroit, but because I haven't seen the W2A show, I'm going to go with Musicology. However, even though, I'm leery of paying my money to see a greatest hits show, Prince through and through will always deliver his best effort on any given night, so I guess you can't go wrong either way.
I will say, I don't understand why Prince needs 3 keyboardists, when either Morris or Renato can play all the key parts, and Prince and deploy Candy or Greg or Maceo or Greg to provide the horn parts. Good thread. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Musicology was better. The bigger band was better, the acoustic set was (only slightly) better than Shiela E, and Prince didn’t drag Purple Rain out to twenty minutes. But in favor of W2A, at least Prince wasn’t playing the filler tracks from Musicology. [Edited 2/28/11 22:42pm]

Musicology Tour is better, but W2A is better than 21 Nights In London.

I think W2A is better because is focuses almost entirely on HIM. Musicology highlighted so many band members, horns, etc..
Both were great but I like W2A better!@!! "Paisley Park is in your Heart"

I saw both Musicology twice in NY and W2A twice in NY. W2A hands down!!!!
And as a keyboardist, no.... neither Morris nor Renato can play all keyboard parts. Prince always has had his music arranged for 2 keyboardists. Does he need the 3rd??? that I'm not sure. I was trying to figure out what Morris was doing vs. Renato vs. Casandra. I know on the new arrnagement of Kiss Cassadnra was doing the rhythm guitar part on a clavinet type sound since there is no rhythm guitar in the band (other than Prince who was dancing at the time).
And signature Prince is to have keys do the horn parts, not horns, unless it's Eric with the keys doubling him.
