Loved instrumentals to Songs

Everyone knows the instrumental to God (the love theme in Purple Rain), preferably the 7 minute version, and yall know the 3 min version with the vocals. Kinda scary and spooky to me btw eek But anyway, I prefer the instrumental version over the vocal one any day.

So my point is, under that strange vocalization, it took my ears away from the beautiful instrumental that lay underneath. And that got me to thinking about songs, that if stripped away from the vocals, how would the instrumental alone change our perception of that song?

Like Do Me, Baby for instance, I love the song vocal and all, but I started to focus in on the instrumental and tune out his singing. it's beautiful!!! And of course, the opening treble of the piano at the beginning is the hooker, but to listen to just an instrumental of that wondrous piano alone would be a blessing.

Another one is How Come U Don't Call me Anymore. Powerful bass and middle keys of the piano. The rehearsals from the Purple Rushes aren't enough for me. I just want the official instrumentals. But just add me to the Prince Fan Wish List scroll, I guess smile

There are songs that live for its lyrics and vocals, and there are some that thrive because of the instrumentation and lack of many vocals, such as Computer Blue and Purple Rain

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I was thinking about this the other day. Planet Earth being the subject of the thought, this song becomes significantly more pleasing to the ear minus the lyrics. The music really does do all the talking on this one, so the lyrics (while I appreciate what they attempt to relay) are in essence uneccesary.

I'd rather listen to Planet Earth minus the lyrics AND the music...
