Prince 1999 Australian re-issue

PrinceVault says that 1999 will be re-issued here in Australia in a couple of days. Does anyone know any information about this? Is it Warner Bros or NPG Records? And is it remastered? I apologise if there is already a thread about this.

Hopefully it will be a re-mixed and re-mastered thing, and not just an exact copy of the early 90s version. But who knows?

Ok, wild (optimistic) theory alert...

First, PrinceVault reports that WB/Rhino are re-releasing Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 on 180g LP next month.

Now we learn about this re-release of 1999 on CD, with no further info.

Is it possible this is the deal WB and Prince reached so that Prince (apparently) got his early masters back a few years early?

There's no point WB trying to sell old CDs when they're about to come out as remastered CDs, so instead they could try to capitalise on the publicity the remasters would no doubt get by re-releasing good quality vinyl, the rights to which they may have in exchange for the early release?

Why 1999 first and why Australia I have no idea...not that I'm complaining wink

Looking forward to Friday!

Reality check: This is a very odd way to build up to the release of the remasters, so I admit, I'm stretching the optimism more than a little here boxed

Let's cross our fingers!!!! Dont know where in Aussie you are but JB HiFi carry a lot of Prince Albums, hopefully they will have the 1999 release as well.

Strange, isn't it. You'd think he'd re-issue Purple Rain first in the US or France. But I guess he might be realising that he needs to pay more attention to Australia. (Australian Tour this year?)

If this 1999 re-issue is going ahead, it will be in JBHiFi and hopefully my one.

Crossed my mind...either that, or the Peach & Black guys have more clout with him than we realised! wink

That said, I just rang JB and they have nothing about a re-release arriving this week, or anytime in the future for that matter sad

The guy I spoke to said that the only new Prince-related release they had was a remastered SOTT DVD that was released last month. Did I miss a memo??? eek I'm running off to get it now, but I don't remember seeing anything about it, so don't want to make a big deal about it in case everyone but me already knows about this razz

*off to JB*

Sign "O" The Times DVD has been released here for a few years, but I too have never heard of a new remastered version. Maybe they got confused. Need to check JB this weekend.

Typical Prince. I bet they won't know until the 4th. (If it's actually happening)

That's what I thought too, but I now have a digitally remastered copy of SOTT DVD in my hot little hands thanks to an evening trip down to JB Bourke St! biggrin

Instead of the tracklisting on the back, there is a blurb that, in addition to an overall description, adds "This ground-breaking concert film has been completely digitally restored, enhanced and remastered in Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1 for this magnificent DVD release!"

It looks (from org posts long past) that this - or something like it - has been available o/s for a few years, but it's definitely the first time I've seen it here.

Hmmm...ramping up for a tour or offering something new to keep us happy while he tours everywhere else??? razz

In any case, I'm grateful for the find! heart

Speaking about an Australian tour, is there any arenas in the country that can do in the round shows, because it would be really cool to see the prince stage in person.

Im not sure, would depend on the dimensions of that Symbol stage, but surely there is somewhere in Sydney they could hold it. Im wondering whether Olympic Park would hold it.

Newcastle, but I'm in Sydney fairly often.

Do you mean the arena at Olympic Park, because I was thinking about that one too. biggrin

Well, the DVD says 16:9 (NTSC though), though it doesn't fill out my widescreen TV - though that might be user error, as I haven't had it very long boxed

Just checked it out quickly, but looking forward to the remastered audio when I watch it properly later tonight!!

I'd be surprised if they couldn't set one up in Rod Laver Arena (tennis centre) in Melbourne.

I think you guys are letting your imaginations run away with you.

A re-issue, is not a remaster. The PR vinyl, the coming vinyl, the Japanese SHM CDs - none of these were remasters.

Yeah, we're mainly just enjoying speculating, I think biggrin

I do have a question though - PrinceVault says it's a re-release. Is that the same as a re-issue?

Most re-releases I've seen at least include some bonus material...

...although given that the biggest entertainment chain in the country has no info about it does make me skeptical about the whole thing neutral

Yep, IF P was to bring his show to Sydney it would be an obvious choice. Alot of it's appeal as you know is its close proximity to everywhere, City, Suburbs no matter where you live in & around Sydney you would be able to get to it fairly easily.

Chiquetet: I havn't been to Rod Laver so i wouldnt know if it would be a large enough area for the Stage.

Anyway while the idea of a tour is very welcomed from my side, I am def not holding my breath on that one!!! We'll have to see when & if it is decided!!! Nice thought, though!!! biggrin cool

lol A re-issue is (sort of) announced, and already you have him touring and releasing remasters.

Calm down. I hope you guys get a few gigs in Aussie, it's been a damn long time for you to wait.

But i would not be getting too excited about this re-issue thing.

I hope i'm wrong though.
