How did Prince get away performing in his underwear before??

I can't imagine any male singer doing it now...I'm currently watching the Prince music video hits collection and there a couple of videos there where he is in his underwear with a trenchcoat and those stockings of his...what did you guys think the first time you saw it..definitely daring on his part..and I actually miss that part of him...

The one thing that people seem to forget is during that period, Prince kept his coat on for 60-75% of the show.
As the night went on he'd unbutton his coat then take it off. Under that he would have a long shirt and the whole group of them jumped and danced about a lot so it was very fitting to be comfortable. The big thing was that the music was so powerful and slamming that by the time he took the shirt off you really didn'nt care if he had on any clothes or not. It was about the music and the performance. If you ever get a chance to see the First Ave. pre Purple Rain Show, he did the same thing. He'd take off a little something and everytime he did, it looked as though he had on a different outfit. But, then again, the music was so slamming you didn't care what he had on. The first tour with Rick James was a bit shocking and people were calling him "bitchy" and a bunch of other names but by the end of the perfomance, not only did the Prince group make Rick James look bad (and totally boring), he had the whole audience by the short hairs screaming for more. But Prince back in those days would only give you enough to make you want to find out what this guy was about. They always kept you on edge.

I use to love it when he dressed like that, it's just too bad I never got to see him in concert back in those days.

It was daring on the part of his audience too. People always seem to miss that part of the equation--the audience. Prince has changed, but so has the listening public.

I wonder how people would respond if Prince does something like this again...would it revive his career??

When I see old pictures of Prince in his underwear, I feel blessed that I got to see him like this. How did he ever get away with the assless pants thing?

You know what's funny, Prince is wearing very nice tailored, sophisticated suites on the ONA tour but the boys are hanging out and swinging freely in his trousers. lol I was thinking son do you know they are showing? Then I thought again he is Prince of course he knows. lol
