When i was a kid i hated Prince doing songs with drum machines.

I was very much into his 90's more organic sound.

loud acoustic drums,heavy guitars.

But as i grow older i started loving Prince's drum machine programing.

Now days i find his 80's song based on linn drum the best.

Any of you feel the same?

ps: don't hate on Pet Shop Boys, they are amazing pop writers/ performers, IMO.

I don't hate drum machines, but I much prefer real drums. [But I can make an exception for Prince]

It's probably because I grew up with TGE...

I like most (not all) of Prince's use of drum machines, and i have always loved them personally.

When i was younger, my friends and i had a little band going for a while, instead of getting in a drummer, we bought a drum machine, it was great, it never argued with us, it never got tired playing the same thing for hours on end, and we did not have to share our weed and beer with it.

Drum machines rock.

It wasnt that he stopped completely using drum machines..he just stopped experimenting with them and making new sounds with them.

I like Prince's use of drum machines because he knows how to do them right... some artists just click play, and sounds Yawn... but Prince can come up with non conventional beats.

In my opinion, Prince has always excelled at the drums department. Always the right treatment, always the right sound for each album. And always good collaborators, specially Sheila and Michael...

Even the drum machine of Emancipation, as crappy as it may sound, fits the rest of the music smoothly and nicely... it's a "shame" that he cancelled that album, perhaps he wisely felt that the album was weak and full of filler so he cancelled it...

I think Prince, Phil Collins and Trent Reznor are the ones who really know how to take computerized stuff and make it work musically.
