In LRC Prince sings about a woman who takes him to a place where he sees pictures of jockeys that were there before him. He then says he started to worry if he had enough class. Now I know this song is full of double entendres but isn't she the slut in the situation and the one who lacks class... not him! I like the obtuseness and otherworldliness of many of his lyrics but can you think of lines which just don't seem to be logical (as Spock might say)?

That line actually makes perfect sense in context.

He's saying he "Wondered if I had enough class.." (..to resist/not bang her)

..."but it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it alright."

"I took another bubble bath with my pants on"

Not sure about the illogical but the most logical could be 1+1+1=3

I've wondered recently, that live, he is trying not to swear, or blaspheme. So for example in why u wanna treat me so bad it becomes, 'really don't give a care', rather than 'damn', yet, on Compassion, he sings 'Like a bloody fool'...and I remember bloody being one of the first swears I got told off about. So ok, it's low level, but I'd understood it was kinda of a religious swear, coming from either 'By our Lady', or 'God's Blood.'...dunno, maybe it isn't the same in the USA? Please, shoot me down if u will!

I always that jockets meant the ones who have "rode" her. Pictures of all the men she has been with.

That is funny. I never looked up the lyrics but I always assumed it said 'we will smote them all' which seems a bit more biblical (even thought the tense wasn't correct).

I was reading WAY too much into his lyrics and not actually reading the lyric sheet.

Interesting. I started doubting so got out the cd to check and it is definitely smoke.

So much work. Find the cd, find the song on the booklet, put on the reading glasses to read the fine print. Gee. Internet is wonderful. Type type click click... et voila

Watch Prince’s direct-to-video movie 3 Chains o’ Gold and the song Seven will make a little bit more sense. Unfortunately the rest of the album will start to make almost no sense at all.
