Prince concert @ The Oracle 2/23/11 Oakland, CA (setlist & review)

(The setlist):

Let's Go Crazy

Delirious
Little Red Corvette
Glamourous Life (Shelia E)
I Love You But I Don't Trust You
Controversy
Love Bizarre w/Shelia E
Play That Funky Music White Boy/Thank you For Lettin Me Be Myself (w/Graham Central Station)
Fancy Dancer/Freak Out (Chic)
Love Rollercoaster (Ohio Players)
Housequake
Kiss
Purple Rain
Baby I'm a Star

(EncoreMedley):
When Doves Cry/Nasty Girl/Sign Of The TimesAlphabet St./Forever In My Life/Pop Life/Black Sweat (all played around on his electronic purple grand piano/sampler of the actual tracks without the band)

(w/full band):

The Bird

Jungle Love

(The band):

John Blackwell - drums

Renato - keys

"new beauty" on bass

"new beauty" on keys

Shelby - background vox

"blond chick with huge tits" - background vox

"short haired sista" - background vox

and the one & only "Sheila E." - percussion & drums

Nothing short of amazing. Still has his moves. Still has his falsetto. Still dressed to kill. Lighting "mind blowing". Sound top notch. Shelia E. played almost throughout the entire set. She played drums on Purple Rain. The bald sista "Shelby" used to be D'Angelo's background vox during the Voodoo tour.

Forgive me orgers for not knowing various new band members names.

Enjoyed the show immensely!

Prince is and always will be THE MAN!

God bless and peace to the good people @ Prince.org

(ps - I'm asking some of my fellow orgers very kindly not to post anything negative or hateful towards this post..thank you).

(EncoreMedley):
When Doves Cry/Nasty Girl/Sign Of The TimesAlphabet St./Forever In My Life/Pop Life/Black Sweat (all played around on his electronic purple grand piano/sampler of the actual tracks without the band)

It was 2007 all over again?

"new beauty" on bass

Ida

"new beauty" on keys

Cassandra?

Shelby - background vox

"blond chick with huge tits" - background vox

Elisa?

"short haired sista" - background vox

Liz?

Obviously I wasn't there so I am just guessing to fill in the blanks etc.

Will check the audio when I get home...

Him sitting at a sampler keyboard, triggering some loops of mostly well known classics and thus teasing the crowd a bit.

(if this recent incarnation was anything like the 2007 O2 gigs...)

I like the snippets of samples...from the ones I heard. Definitely a tease but sometimes just hearing the sample is enough...we all know the words and tunes but the samples triggers peoples' pleasurable synapse connections. biggrin In fact I wish he'd bring out a whole megamix of "ALL HIS HITS" in that way...Num num... razz

i dont like the setlist to be honest.

too much purple rain and 1999, and all the best songs are in the piano medley, which i think takes away from them.

but i know i wouldnt have cared had i gone to the show tease

The songs that were sampled on the piano was a really fun part of the evening. When he pressed one key and Darling Nikki came on everybody lost their sh#t. It was fun and hilarious. Especially because both Prince and Sheila were nodding their heads like saying "oh no! can't do that song."

Yeah, it was Elisa Fiorillo or however you spell her name. The three female singers did a crazy good version of ANGEL. The harmonies were out of this world.

And on Monday's show Shelbys version of MISTY BLUE had me in tears.

haha yeah, i like the piano medley thing, its just that id rather him do the songs entirely.

i wouldve lost it too though if he started to play darling nikki tease hes such a tease. i guess he really does know what people wanna hear. he just doesnt wanna play any of it.. for some reason. i mean, it cant ALL be because hes a JW.. darling nikki i can see, but...

BTW, it's Liv. Liv Warfield. IMO, the best out of the 3. I still can't get over Elisa being the same voice from Love Machine. Yikes. Those titties would suffocate me.

Hmm. My idea.

And yes, I saw all of the European 20ten shows.

He can do much better than this. It's simply another greatest hits kinda of thing.

I can even call him lazy:

He doesn't want to do any effort to attract enough not-so-casual fans so he can play less hits.

He didn't care to do a show with hard-core fan material.

He only cares to meake some 'easy' money. (yes, it still takes effort and all that, but it could have been so much better with relatively little extra investment)
