I'm into my 5th soul now, so... I ... nevermind.
I remember telling my dad, or at least trying to tell him how good a musician Prince was. I just got a copy of 1999 and started playing it. I did not hear the song "Let's Pretend We're Married" prior to him hearing it. From that point on, you can imagine what my dad had to say everytime I mentioned Prince's name!!! |

I'd never dictate no Miley or Beiber if that's what they and their friends are liking. They're just children after all. Prince may be a great artist, but to a child that's a bit like being forced to watch 'The Kings Speech' over 'Toy Story 3'. |

I don't have any children yet, but when I do I plan on introducing them to Madonna, Prince, MJ, etc. as soon as they're born. At first the lyrics will go right over the kids' heads but when they do start to understand what's going on I hope it'll teach them something in the long run. If not, well - the music is good.
The LOOK is the curiosity. That's what pulled me in..then the Linn Drums. I used to ask my mom why he sung 'like a girl' and why he would wear underwear and she used to explain it to me but I didnt understand....it kept me intrested in him.
Its good to teach them the greats
Exactly. |

Prince is better than most of the music out today. I'm 17 and I discovered him somewhat on my own. I would always hear "When Doves Cry" on the radio when I was younger. When I got older, I asked my mom about him and his music (she only knew his "hit singles" ) so I went off to hear more of his music, beyond the "hits". I think more people my age should listen to his music, however most of them are stuck in their habit of listening to Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, etc. Whenever I talk about Prince, my friends roll their eyes. They're the ones missing out.
I took my mom to the January 18 and February 7 shows at Madison Square Garden and she absolutely loved them. I'm getting her into more of his music now, hoping to broaden her musical tastes. She is sort of "re-discovering" Prince now while I'm still learning all I can about him.
I'll definitely let my kids listen to Prince in the future. They need to grow up knowing good music.
Spoken like a true 'Prince freak'. Welcome to the purple world (& welcome back Mama). If you haven't already, check out his 'sign of the times' dvd. THE BEST tour in musical/ entertainment history. I was about 8 when he did this tour & ran away from home to go see it.... didn't get further than the train station but i tried! |
