Samples in Prince tracks... well they frown on mp3s here but i'm not really after tracks...but where does prince get his samples from apart from the ones he makes?
lady cab driver has some city ambience before it kicks in and it came from a sample lp i heard?
also the baby sound from the black album just prior to superfunky, also used on in all my dreams...
surely that is copyright free and can be posted?
also, what else...can we link to youtube? never heard the raw 7 sample. Got my mojo working...it just don't work on you!

I'm sure there are a ton of samples from commercially available sound libraries. I remember feeling a little let down when I discovered the rocket-launch countdown from "Live 4 Love" on a sound sample disc back in the mid-90s. My naive notions of how I thought it all went down in the studio were crushed! How dare he use a sound library that I had access to...at school! Ahhh, youth!

Holy shit.
You'd think listening through those sample CDs would take a whole lot more time than coming up with a similar intro yourself.

What's the raw 7 sample? I suppose impossible to describe in words? "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

"7" is a song by Prince and The New Power Generation, from the 1992 Love Symbol Album.[1] It features a sample of the 1967 Otis Redding and Carla Thomas duet, "Tramp".

Thanks. Listened to both songs as I couldn't pick it up just from Tramp. I think i hear it now though, ( unless, my ears are playing tricks on me.) It's hard coz the key tones are vasty different in both songs. Interesting about these samples. Anyone know of any others? "Gett Off" The Diamond and Pearl version samples "Boomin System" by LL or "Never Gonna Get it" by Envogue. (side bar the damn near 10 version without it is actually better) but check this out http://www.whosampled.com/artist/Prince/

Cool site, thanks Decarstone. The dna of music.
Amazing. Space my favourite song has a sample form Larry Graham's Jam? Wow!
Lil Wayne's "act your age not your shoe size" tch tch tch No one can copy the master! Same as the "nice and smooth" only the Starfish & Coffee part is nice. D'angelo's Africa his song is made by the "I wonder u" beat. It's so hypnotic. Young disciples -get yourself together nice track and nice sampling of SOTT
Some of them are really subtle. Like Nine Inch nails Alphabet st. Of course a lot of Prince videos aren't there for comparison.
It seems the song "to whom it may concern" is a complete sample remix of a lot of his own songs.
Really like the Ingrid Chavez number, gorgeous mix of Eye no. I wanna buy that one. How it classifies under rock/pop genre mystifies me. Maybe pop but please someone tell me, when will we have a new name for pop?

Where on earth is the Perry and kingsley sample in Delirious???
And what about Space sampling The Jam? I know The Jam by heart and i never noticed that A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I do remember Timbaland using the baby "coo" from "Delirious" when he produced Aaliyah's "Are That Somebody".

It's not sampled from Delirious, they're both sampled from a sound library that the thread was originally discussing.

If you pull the the Jam track to 5.08 I think it's that basic beat part that is a background constant sound in Space.
The en Vogue sample I think is at 0.13 which is in Get off. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

Let me rephrase, Timbaland was "inspired" to use the sample by being turned on to it from "Delirious".

The drum loop in 'Tick Tick Bang' is right from 'Little Miss Lover' Hendrix 'Axis: Bold as Love' I hope Mitch Miller's & Jimi's estate got some coin from that... My wife? She's my keel, and I'm her pesky boulder in shallow water... http://kideuphrates.wordpress.com/

Wow, didn't notice that with the Africa song until you said so. It's pretty obvious when you know it. That song is really great. I love that Dangelo album.
