This was my first Prince album and I loved it!

Batdance was the ridiculous jam all over radio that got me hooked, Partyman was just real funky, the seductive vocals on The Scandalous Sex Suite (and that wicked, nasty groove on Sex), the eerie atmosphere of The Future and I always felt Vicky Waiting had an irresistible melody to it.

But over 13 years later, what has happened? Whenever I play the album, I really just can't get back into it. Maybe, it's just that I'm not 11 anymore.

Anyone else?

You know what? I feel the same way! There are some great tunes on this album but for some reason,I just can't enjoy it the way I used to.Maybe it's because the whole 'Batman' hype was SO 1989? It's certainly one of Prince's most dated sounding albums.

Yep, I still enjoy listening to this one. I don't put it on that often, but when I do I can still get into no problem.

I was just listening 2 Batman a few days ago on vinyl (yes, vinyl!) and I still feel it. But then again, 1989 was quite a memorable year 4 me personally and this record really brings back memories. I think any Prince album could be like that 4 anyone. With some albums, it's not necessarily the music itself u enjoy, it's the feeling u get from listening 2 certain songs that just seems 2 do it.

I was always a bit of a Prince snob and would have rather he release a 'normal' album (apparently this would have been Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - though obviously not the same as 1999 version) as opposed to a "songs inspired by the motion picture" album

That's not to say I didn't like the songs (particularly The Future, Electric Chair, Partyman, Trust).

I do now feel that songs like Batdance sound very dated BUT I always "rediscover" albums after a period of never listening to them again!

In fact I'm gonna play it tonight!

man, i still dig this album! i loved the movie and loved the music. as the album is just a good soundtrack for the movie, the movie is a great video for this album. when i listen to the record i see and feel the dark, mysterious streets of gotham city, the heroic batman, the sexy vicki vail and last but not least the vicious and oh so cool joker.. it's my first prince album too and that says a lot.

i never liked it at the time and still don't.it was following SOTT and Lovesexy, and didn't continue that vibe at all.

I think what is sad is that it sold a lot of copies cause of the film, and alot of casual fans were turned off Prince because of it's poor quality, maybe thinking he'd lost it.

isn't it his second biggest selling album aswell?

i rate NPS more to be honest.

The release of Graffit Bridge , and his turning attention to the Batman soundtrack resulted in the project remaining unreleased.

According to Turn It Up 2.0, a first configuration is believed to have included: 'The Voice Inside', 'Melody Cool', 'Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic', 'God Is Alive', 'If I Had A Harem', 'Stimulation', 'Still Would Stand All Time', 'Elephants and Flowers', 'Big House' and 'We Got The Power'.

Thanks Langebleu. There are some intriguing tracks on Rave. He definitely seems to have wanted to rework some of his older material to feature on his albums around that time. I remember reading an interview when Diamonds & Pearls was about to be released where he said he was interested in seeing how people would perceive the music on Graffiti Bridge, what with it being a mix bag of songs from different eras. It's a real shame, it didn't work.

I must admit, I was never really into GB when it first came out but now I absolutely love it (and unlike most, in it's entirity).

Wasn't it also said at the time, that Prince was going to be taking a break after Lovesexy? I'm sure it was said that is was much-needed (being his first real break since he started 10 years earlier), but the Batman project came along and he wanted to do the album so much that the break never happened.

I'm glad he recorded Batman, I like the record, but I think he was trying to do too much when it then came to Graffiti Bridge - had he just focussed on the album, it could have been a lot better, but aiming to do a film as well, I think was, ahem, a bridge too far?!

It still Kicks my pants whenever I listen to it.

"The best of". I wonder if there were some legal reasons for this?

the saturday nite live version of "electric chair" is a MUST have for any fans of this record. it's so good!

Yes, I feel the most Batman when I put on my Batman costume and swing from building to building in downtown Washington, D.C. and hum Danny Elfman's score.

It was a pretty big letdown after so many GREAT albums, but I remember putting "Electric Chair" and "Lemon Crush" on repeat A LOT.

I loved the album and the movie. Especially Batdance video and Electric Chair performance on SNL, as well as Vicki Waiting, Lemon Crush, Scandalous Sex Suite, and the Future. The other songs were okay as well.

There were far too many remixes of 'Partyman' for my liking and the 'Purple Party Mix' was just a joke.

On the other hand there was a killer extended version of 'Electric Chair' that should at least have been released as a b-side. Instead, we had to make do with that lameass remix by Mark Moore, aaarrghhh!!!

I dont really listen to the album any more, but it was my first prince album, mainly because i was 9 when it came out and thought i was batman. I thought the film was brilliant and so that is kinda how i got into prince...although my sister playing purple rain & lovesexy all the time also probably subconsciously got me into him.

But it has some great songs on it, The Future, Electric Chair, Vicky Waiting and Scandalous i think are top notch.

I agree that the SNL version of Electric Chair is an excellent performance.

one of my top favorite albums probabably like #6 maybe
