When I was younger I always heard "Little Red Corvette" and "When Doves Cry" on the radio but I never knew the artist behind them. Around a year ago, "When Doves Cry" was on the radio like always and I asked my mom who sang it. She told me it was Prince and I remembered a lot of the people on this one social networking site I belong to listen to him a lot. I started looking up more of his music and then I watched the BET Awards in June. I was intrigued by him and the following week I saw "Purple Rain" for the first time. Since then, I've been obsessed. I even got to see him at Madison Square Garden twice this year with my mother.

Most of my friends just roll their eyes when I tell them I love Prince. But who cares? They'll never understand my music tastes. I don't expect them to.

I've learned a lot about Prince since that day last year but I have a lot more to learn and a lot more music to discover. Sometimes I wish I could have been around in the 80s to experience it all from the beginning.

First aware of him with the song Controversy, thought he was kinda cute in the 1999 & Little Red Corvette videos, really liked the music. The summer of '84, heard When Doves Cry and was hopelessly enchanted. Saw Purple Rain and started buying everything in his catalogue I could find. Never truly left him through the 90's, just didn't pay as close attention ALL of the time. Over the last couple of years, right through to this W2A tour, I have been turning into that trembling, hopelessly devoted 16 year old girl from '84. So grateful he's still around and performing well, hope to see him live 1 day soon.

The first time I remember hearing a Prince song was when I was 5 (1991), however my mom says she's played Prince music around me much earlier than that. I was in the back of my Uncle's car just jamming out to the sounds of his Guitar and high pitched voice. My Uncle used to wear tight purple pants and a button up shirt that probably came from the women's department. My brothers always laughed. Anywho, it wasn't until about 11 years later that I truly appreciated Prince. I've listened to him for a while but never could understand a lot of the things he sung about. And certain songs I wasn't allowed to listen, tho I found my ways . My favorite songs are.... too many to name but you can check out this forum post for the songs I regular.

{Warning a little off subject} March 30th will be my very first concert. And yes I am very excited I haven't been able to sleep well since I received my tickets. I've had nightmares that he'd cancel the concert and I'd never get my chance to experiance what all first-timers do. I've been keeping up with the concert updates and can't wait for my experience.

i was about 3 years old and my mum used to always listen to the purple rain tape and watch the purple rain video and it all started there

MTV. The videos for the 1999 album. After that I realized I knew who he was previously from hearing 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'. But it was really MTV constantly playing 1999 & Little Read Corvette that hooked me. Then I got SERIOUSLY caught up in the Purple Rain craze. Been hanging around ever since.

I had a record voucher 4 my 9th birthday (1980) & my older sis took me 2 buy Adam & the Ants 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' as I was in2 the single 'Stand & Deliver' at the time. I clocked 'Dirty Mind' on the shelf instead and bought that owing 2 the freaky front cover (I was 9 and hadn't realised the patterns in the background were bedsprings and thought 'head' was about..well someone's head!) Upon hearing it my parents were horrified & subsequently banned me from playing it. Game over.

Skip a couple of years and my first girlfriend at senior school taught me how 2 kiss 2 the strains of 'International Lover' (she was a Prince/MJ-obsessed 15 yr old & I was, at 12 yrs old, the only black kid in an all-white school). The rest, the say, is history..
