He did. He also hired and mentord Maceo Parker who has played for Prince so many times. James Brown inspired probably all soul and funksters.

You somehow managed to pick the absolute worst pic of James Brown to use in this thread. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

Yes, he did!
What about it? I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Judged by the hair and the colourful clothes I'd say there is a good chance that he did.

While were speaking of the late, great Mr. Brown and inquiring if he was an influence to Prince....
....here are some clips of J.B. and the Famous Flames performing at the T.A.M.I. Show in 1964 and judge for yourselves.
(I love these clips)

I know, the man was so awesome. In that "Please, Please" clip, I've never seen a man beg a woman as hard as James not to leave him. [Edited 2/20/11 12:39pm]

Prince admitted his influence from James Brown in 1986 in an article in Jet Magazine:
"He [Prince] credits his mesmerizing stage presence to his show business idol James Brown, dubbed "the hardest working man in show business," admitting "James Brown played a big influence in my style." The performer recalled, "When I was about 10 years old my stepdad put me on stage with (James Brown) and I danced a little bit until the bodyguard took me off."
Recalling an incident that would have a lasting impact on him, the 27 year-old Prince continued, "The reason I liked James Brown so much is that on my way back stage, on my way out, I saw some of the finest girls I'd ever seen in my life. And I think, in that respect, he influenced me by his control over his group." (Jet magazine, p. 38, Jan. 27, 1986) books.google.com/books?id=NrMDAAAAMBAJ... The quality of a mugshot shouldn´t let you doubt the influence that James Brown has had and still has over hundreds of musicians. Prince mentioned Mr.Brown´s influence several times over the years. The Santana and Shuggie Otis influences are also very obvious. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Let's start all over Jason. This man, the late, great James Brown, who was often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul" within the black community as well as others, was apparently one of Prince's music and performance influences. With James Brown's passing, his image deserves to be depicted in a positive way. Let's at least give him that much respect. His music, just like Prince's, was able to reach across all racial lines.

I guess this bait thread went horribly awry for the OP. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

And not just musically, either!

Over the years it was also not hard to notice James Brown's moves in many of Prince's dance steps/performances. Especially the splits and fast foot moves. You can't miss that influence in Prince's during the end of the Purple Rain movie where Prince is dancing.

As it deserved to. I got a new laptop the other day, had a disaster with my iTunes and had to re-load my music. JB's 'Startime' was one of the first back on it. Not touched Princes folder yet. I'm Prince-free so far and kinda loving it baby!

YES. He "gave birth to"/influenced two of the greatest artists ever - Prince and Michael Jackson. What does that say about James Brown? Where was he ranked on that VH-1 or Rolling Stone "all time greatest" list? I believe it was below both his Prince and MJJ

If you mixed in a pot James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, Marvin Gaye, David Bowie Mick Jagger, Rick James, & Charlie Chaplin. The results

@Hat, If that's the lastest Rolling Stone list then I'm referring to another list....VH-1 maybe. Whatever list it was Michael Jackson was #2 for sure because there were people complaining that he was ranked so high because of his passing...

It would appear so. | |

Wow....I had read about the arrest but this is the first time that I see the mugshot photo. How rare is this? Where did you find it? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
