The Question of U, Empty Room and (God Is) Everywhere

I’ve read in various places either fact or speculation concerning these three tracks and the original recordings being used for their later release?

Empty Room and The Question of U are both said to use the basic tracks from 1985 on the released/circulating versions, BUT how much, are the vocals the original takes? How much was removed or added? I’ve read that Empty Room only features the original guitar and cymbal, and everything else is overdubbed or re-recorded, I’ve also read from BorisFishpaw that the 1995 circulating version is essentially a remix of the 1985 version? The Question of U I’ve only read it Turn It Up that it’s a update of he original track, which could be anything from re-recording or simply adding some overdubs.

Finally, I’ve read speculation that the released track ‘Everywhere’ on the Rainbow Children, is based on the 1985 recording ‘God Is Everywhere’ ...gotta say, listening to the track it’s not hard to imagine. I wouldn’t imagine though tracks from the original recording are used, but maybe?

Can anybody shed some laser light on these tracks we have?

Yep! Empty Room was even re-recorded in 1992. That 1994 video version is based on the original 1985 recording. I'm not sure but, I bet u that the one used in 1994 in the video was considered for the unreleased project Roadhouse Garden back in 1998/1999. The Question of U is based on the 1985 recording. Around 1989 and 1990, he was going in the vault a bit much. Half of the Graffiti Bridge album was based around original recordings in the vault in some shape or form (stuff recorded as far back as 1981). I did also read that too, as well as far as Everywhere on the Rainbow Children album. I've read that Everywhere is based on the 1985 recording of God Is Everywhere. I think it was re-worked. I wouldn't be surprised.

"CyberSingle" was a different song originally. The same music, but completely different lyrics. Recorded circa-1995.

And to address your post, "Empty Room" (to my knowledge) retained the old guitar, drum machines, and vocals, but had added live drums overtop of the drum machine (which causes that distinctive snare sound) and the finger chimes or whatever.

Interesting the finger chimes were added, those were one element that sounded like 1985... considering he used them on pretty much every track on ATWIAD.

Thanks for the info guys!
