Like I said in another forum, Misty equals Manuela. It's really weird as Misty has boyish looks if you really look closely at the lower photos. I must say if Prince dates someone who was not a dancer and more of a real woman he would look smarter. But not sure if he will learn this in this lifetime as I think he is going to follow in Hefner's footsteps which is just plain sad.

I felt the same, that Misty has kind of boyish looks. Especially in the pic from behind, something about her mouth and nose is very uh... Eddie Murphy or something.

or she looks a bit like prince himself, especially looking back at his younger photos.

Oh, even thought that queen thing factually isn't correct. Can be a pride buster if someone realizes there is usually only 1 queen maybe a few princesses. And the rest servants... someone had to take out the trash right? And that's ok,... but the whole "we were all kings & queens is a lie" the kings & queens sold off the peasants and servants to be slaves in America

If a person can be mistaken for 'other ethnic groups' then they don't look black... Even if they identify as black

Sheila's niece Nicole identifies as Black but I don't think she looks black.

I saw comedian Lisa Lupinetti who was known for loving black men. And she rips on every type of ethnic group out there. She tore upa Jewish/Puerto Rican couple all night. And her newly Italian husband. I don't identify as black but I know what that all means in this country. So I was kinda nervous when I found out we had 4th row seats. She wanted to rip into Indian men that night, and was searching, for some reason I put my head down a bit and I heard her call out "There's one, right there in the 4th row with his head down" She was talking to me. But she could determine if I was Indian or Arab. I'm mistaken for those 2 ethnic groups alot.

But you still didn't answer the question. I'm concern because what I'm getting from your previous and current response is that your idea of what black looks like is based on stereotype and caricature. Looking black isn't about dark-skin and big features. Going any deeper than that will require it's own thread.

I'm not being stereotypical. To say that Sheila E or Prince looks black or Mariah Carey looks black is not realistic. I think sometimes what people mean is "I can see African genetic mixture in them" because they look just as much or more European.

Race terms/labels are a social construction. Not a biological fact.

The African ancestors of "African-Americans" come mostly from West & Central Africa, there are various ethnic distinction between the countries. But blue eyes, wavy hair, light skin, even light brown skin, aqualine noses mostly is not. I didn't say anything about huge lips and noses. And guess what I don't see those things as bad or ugly. So caricature is not even in my mind.

Black is an identity. Some of the same people who we identify as Black in America would be something different in Europe, in Africa, in Louisiana, in S. Africa, in parts of Latin America. Which is what I mean by race being a social construction. Alicia Keys found that out when she went to S.African and with her 'black' American identity found that the blacks, coloureds and whites identified her as a 'Cape' Coloured, not a Black person which are 2 different ethnic identities in S. Africa

And if you look at the origins of the 'race' labels it's foundation is racist. the world is full of 1000's of different ethnic groups. Not 4 racial groups. Black Yellow Red White

actress Carol Channing is 1/4 black but most people assume she is 'all' white

singer Carley Simon is 1/4 black but most people assume she is 'all' white

I remember watching a talk show that features 'blacks' who could pass for white... something like that.

And there was a woman who in no sense looked even mixed. She came from a family where both parents were of African/Euro admixture, she looked whiter. She was very much "black identified" went to a black college etc etc This was the 1970's and there was a riot in the area she lived in race related. And she realized as black as she identified, she was not identified as such by the rioters and was seen as a white woman and was physically assaulted and feared for her life as she cried out that she was also black and one of them.

Below is a beautiful Fulani woman of Nigeria, and there are many African-American woman that look just like her. Sheila E. doesn't look black as others said, she looks very much mixed. And I don't know why we have to deal in opposite polars. Sheila E does identify was/as Black & Latina that is a cultural identity. A latina can be a 'white' Spaniard women from Spain or a 'black' W.African woman

OK don't respond to me in this thread anymore, you can Orgnote me, because we are sorta gone off the topic

I'm ethnically ambiguous... I've been guessed as Mulatto, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Middle Eastern, Italian, Brasilian, etc.

What's interesting is that it's usually by the people of each of those groups that guess me as the same as them... It's also interesting to see how they warm up and open up while thinking I'm of the same ethnic group.

Exactly. I'm glad that's not where you were going. Race is still a very sensitive topic to some and anytime someone appears to make a statement like the one you did initially, you will be asked for further explanation. Which you did and I appreciate that.

It is a very interesting experience isn't it?

I used to work at a grocery store as a clerk and all the Puerto Rican & Dominican people would come thru mine because they thought I was one as well.

I'm good friends with a Middle Eastern guy who's family owns a neighborhood grocery store and until I spoke with him he always assumed I was an Indian. Same as my neighbor who is a white girl.

I usually get a strong identification thing by people who are more recent immigrants or when I'm in Canada

I have friends and families from all races and cultures. So it's no big deal amongst us.

But I have walked into some places, and BOOM! From out of nowhere come the racial BS.

Sometimes I forget some people still have hangups, but there are some people too happy to burst your bubble and make "funny" slurs directed at you, from out of nowhere, for no apparent reason.

It doesn't bother me too much, more than it knocks the air from my sail for its unexpectedness sometimes.

But back on topic though, whatever Sheila and Misty are, one thing is for sure, they sure do look good.
