WHEN DID PRINCE SAY THIS???

I remeber reading this quote. Maybe Rolling Stone? I honestly can't remember and it just came to me as I'm listening to PR at the moment.

"What if I don't want to sing Purple Rain every time I go on stage? The fans don't want that, either. It's my music, they're my songs."

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

I may not have it worded exactly right but it's an easy quote to retain mentally. The thought of Prince not really wanting to sing PR every time is cloud9

It sounds like something he woulda said on the BET interveiw with Tavis Smiley in 1998. That might be where it;s from.

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I agree! Time to throw out the hits, we've heard them all before! Prince has a rich music catalogue, time to start play more of it!

I don't think he sung it at the 12/29 MSG Welcome2America concert. I didn' t miss it until I saw a setlist and realized it wasn't on there.

Prince was on fire that year... back when Minneapolis was nothin' but a saloon, a bank, and a general store. Our boy P rocked that saloon piano like no other... 'specially when the fighting started! biggrin

lol

This made me think of some episodes of Our Little House On the Prairie, where they sometimes mention Minneapolis when they want to buy seeds or sell their agricultural products.

Even back then, people were already sporting the "Purple Rain" hairdo.

Prince not playing Purple Rain live,

would be like:

the Eagles not playing Hotel California

Pink Floyd not playing Another Brick In The Wall

Elton John not playing Candle In The Wind

Madonna not playing Like a Virgin

Guns N Roses not playing Knocking On Heavens Door

Bryan Ferry not playing Avalon

R.E.M. not playing Losing My Religion

U2 not playing Pride (In The Name Of Love)

Stevie Wonder not playing Superstition

Red Hot Chili Peppers not playing Under The Bridge

Oasis not playing Wonderwall

John Lennon not playing Imagine

Freddie Mercury not playing Bohemian Rhapsody

Jimi Hendrix not playing All Along The Watchtower

Rolling Stones not playing Satisfaction

Purple Rain is a crowd pleaser, after all Prince's best known song........ razz wink

Prince 4Ever. heart

He's made me LOATHE the song.

I ALWAYS skip it on EVERY boot. Even in first listen.

No wonder non-fans think Prince is just 'the purple-rain-guy'. He's worked hard for that.

He should absolutely forget about it and maybe turn it into a rare inclusion in the odd setlist.

You´re making some valid points, I can relate to what you´re saying but.....remember those Ultimate Live Experience/Gold Experience tour shows he did in 1995?

That was the first and the last time I saw people walking out of Prince concerts disappointed because he wouldn´t play Purple Rain or any of his classic songs. People were fed up, even in Holland, of all places, even though the concerts were superb.

Some freaked out when that little "Purple Rain" part of the Purple Medley was played and sang with it, that´s how much they were yearning for him to play that song and some of the other old song. They really clinged to that little part of that medley song that was shown on the big screen before the shows started.

I think only the diehard, hardcore fans would be pleased if he strictly played newer or more obscure material.

Besides, I have no problem with hearing a totally different and newly arranged version of Purple Rain or Little Red Corvette at every new tour. What I don´t like is how he´s butchered Let´s Go Crazy over the years and turned it into a travesty with those Go Go Go chants.
