Prince - Stockholm 1986

So I just got this show recently...and it is pretty good! A bit different than the Birthday show (which I know actually cut out some songs). I liked the performance of A Love Bizarre, When Doves Cry, Do Me Baby was nice..also nice to see the whole thing of Around The World In A Day done...Christopher Tracy's Parade, also got to see a rare performance of 17 Days..that was great. Looked like he was getting tired by the second segment though which is understandable because he was really moving in the first half.

What did you think of it?

Nice, but i have no interest in dvd's at all. However, i love the audio of the same show.

Brilliant gig, one of my favourite Parade shows.

I have this show on dvd also, it's fantastic, though Prince is a little hurried in the first half of the show. Maybe he had the juices flowing early. Great complete show, especially with 17 Days.

I never noticed him getting "tired" at any point in the show. Maybe I need to re-view this show, but I never thought or felt he was tired. What was it that he was doing or didn't do that makes you say that?

With all this talk of Prince performing these days, I'm quite content on putting on my old-school Prince shows, like this one, and just be AMAZED at what a live performer he used to be. He's not God-awful now, but he's not even a shadow of his former stage-self. And, it hurts sometimes to even see him perform these days, knowing the performances he used to put forth. Now, he just likes to look slick and pimpish and play medleys or samplers instead of rockin'/jammin' the fuck out. He should start with having a rhythm guitarist in the band, and maybe have the band take some dance lessons so that there's more choreography in his shows. It is still a "show", no matter how much the "music" part counts. He was capable of bringing both aspects to his shows before, so there's no reason why all of a sudden it has to be "only about the music", as I hear a lot of ppl on the org use as an excuse for him.

Playing the studio track of Pop Life (and other jams) while singing along to it when you have a band right behind you?? Sad indeed.

Just the lack of energy..lack of splits and free running around..more standing still after a while in my opinion even though he was still in sync with coreography and singing was great.

Agreed. I dont expect a guy in his 50's to be what he was in his 20's though..that comes with the beauty of age.

That is part of the reasons I liekd the Twinz..they gave some style and energy to some of his performances...a little added accessory that the band werent doing in the background.

I can agree and disagree about that...he has concentrated more on the music rather than the per4mance recently. However ...in a way it is great to concentrate on the musical element..maybe he should try some different covers too because the Sly and Larry ones are old and tired.

Do you mean the sampled keyboard set he does sometimes? I thought it was a little fun and quirky...he still plays a good long show worth of songs. Would u rather have him do the acoustic guitar set like on the Musicology shows? Those were nice too.

U obviously never went to the last night at the O2 in 2007 - he was leaping up and down far higher than anyone else (during Controversy) and I tried believe me - he killed it !!!

I never said he could not dance and get up still. He just uses his different methods of dancing and all now, he does what he could do. Believe me I been to the Paisley Park show in 09, 5 Musicology Tours and the Target Center show in 07..he still got it going on.
