However, during the '80's, TTD appeared on BBC Saturday morning television and, when interviewed, he was asked where he got his cane. He rather coyly said it was 'a gift from a friend', but refused to reveal who exactly. Of course, he could have been playing games.

The best part of his appearance that morning was when he was lip-synching his latest hit, attempted a fancy spin, and took a fall. The editor managed to switch cameras part way to salvage what was left of his on-screen dignity.

Did Trout D'Arby not hang out at Paisley a couple of times? I think he did.

Trout was always a Prince wanna be in the early part of his career, he was always blowing up Prince's arse in interviews and the like, which is fine.

I went to a Trout D'Arby gig in Edinburgh about a hundred years ago. It was a tour for his first album, introducing the hardline........... He was very good, from what i remember.

they tried him for singing with inxs for awhile. then they kicked off TY with the mohawk on ROCKSTAR:INXS he played the race card. INXS replied we had terence trent darby for awhile. ty was a ass. he belonged singing for broadway show. his vocal stype just didn't meld with the band. sore loser

I seem to remember that TTD played at Paisley one night and tried to play Prince's guitar but couldn't get it right and got embarrassed off the stage. Anyone remember this at all?

I heard that too and Prince looked at him like he was crazy. TTD left the stage completely embarassed.

TTD has never hidden his appreciation of Prince and makes music in avery similar vein... though with a touch more 'Detroit' in his music. TTD operates out a website now, if I remember correctly, and makes money in this way just like Prince used to.

TTD is a superb singer/songwriter... a touch crazy... but a man who always makes interesting music. Neither Fish Nor Flesh was bizarrely brilliant. The last album of his I got, Wild Card, is great. Real music by real muscians... simple as that really.

I never understand the negativity that the TTD name provokes around here.

I don't get that either. He is a truly gifted singer and songwriter. He and Prince respect each other a lot as artists and as far as I remember did 2 songs together that were never made available. Prince too acknowledged him, not only the other way round even though TTD did it more often. But contrary to Prince he loves to talk, so that's not surprising .

BTW Wendy Melvoin played on one song of Wildcard .

Too Bad TTD and Inxs did not get along. It would've been about the only chance either of their careers would've had a chance to go on and mean something. TTD has made some decent material. Quick overviews of TTD's career 1995-Present

Vibrator: Mixed bag...but "Holding On To You," is about as good as a rock/soul ballad as I have ever heard, and the lyrics are better than you would expect. I almost never say this, but I wish Prince wrote this one. The song stands out with the lesser material it shares an album with, but

the rest is mostly pretty good to almost great.

Wildcard: Very good album, some really strong songs...like "O Divina," which sounds like Sesame Street, but still jams. "Designated Fool," which he performed on the Tonight Show...a really nice song.

Angels&Vampires Vol 1&2...titled before Vampires got overdone, but in my opinion, this is TTD's worst album by far. Maybe two mediocre tracks worth listening to, but mine is stuck in the closet.

Nigor Mortis: A decent return to form, "With A Girl Like You," Is fun rockabilly stuff, "I Don't Give A Fuck About You," is a good rock song...this album is kinda costly on his website...but worth it if you love TTD.

The Sphinx: I've only heard a few songs, as it is download only, and I've been cheap lately..."I Never Know," is a great quick ballad. "The Ballad of LeBron and Kobe," is about as bad as the title. It is total crap, and I think you can download it free in his free section, but don't waste your time. Perhaps he and Prince could compare it to "Jughead," or "Wedding Feast," and argue over who made the best crap song.

I like TTD kinda sad all these things kept happening to him in front of one of his idols

Yes this did happen. I was there. It was at an afterparty/aftershow at Paisley Park for a show Prince had done at Glam Slam the same night, Jan 92. The aftershow was held in a rehearsal area right down the hall from the atrium. Prince and the NPG were just jamming and TTD picked up a guitar and started strumming and everyone just kind of looked at him like... He set the guitar down and walked away.

No, it is no joke. The song is terrible. At least Jughead has some good music over the horrible vocals, and Tony M's god awful Mr Money Minder talk. And I do not usually tell other people they are right, and I am wrong, but I will go down the middle here, and say I didn't mean Vibrator was a mixed bag like some of it is bad, I like all of it, I just think that "Holding On To You," is the best song of TTD's career, and the rest of the album doesn't compare. "We Don't Spend That Much Time Together," is probably the second best(on Vibrator, not his career), and there are many other nice songs there.

As far as the LeBron and Kobe song, it is no longer free...you can buy it at the link I will list below, but I warn you...Good Ol' Sananda should be paying you to download this piece of Garbage. Some things are so bad they are good...this is one of those things that is so bad that it can't be good. Makes me feel about as sick as when I saw the NPG for the first time with Tony M, Kirk J, and Damon D come on stage with those damb Star Trek Next Generation Uniforms on.

I'm going to probably download TTD or should I say Sananda's "The Sphinx." I will just not download "LeBron and Kobe." There is another sports themed song called "The Quarterback Song." I hope it is better. It just has to be. For someone to have moved to Europe such a long time ago, it looks like old TTD still has a thing for American sports. Oddly, he was born and raised about 45 miles from where I have lived the last 13 years, but nobody around here knows who I am even talking about unless my bad voice can get out a bar or two of "Wishing Well," or "Sign Your Name." So sad that such a talent is considered a one hit or one and a half hit wonder. He actually had 3 songs hit the Top 40.

What happened to TTD? Well, his own "Around The World In A Day," was his second album, which was a big mistake. Back then, you had to come strong with your second album, or you were gone. Actually, he still had 2 more major label releases. If someone pulled that crap now, they would be dropped before you could say "Big Country." The album was good, but too artsy. Had he released a more pop friendly album, he might have earned the right to make his personal statements, and had another 4 or 5 major releases, but it is what it is.

I remember when Neither Fish Nor Flesh came out thinking how indulgent it was, like he hadn't earned the right to make that. Looking back on it, I think it's a good record but like you say it should have been his 4th or 5th record. If he had've played the game more commercially sensibly, he had the talent to be playing arenas/stadiums.

Personally, I think all of Sananda's new material from the past decade is outstanding...
