Guitar Size A bet rides on this question: Does Prince have his guitars made on a smaller scale than the norm?
Or is this impossible and all guitars are the same size? My wife says that she read it before. She may have but it doesn't mean that its automatically true either. Anyone who knows please. |

I don't know about the Symbol guitars, but I am pretty sure the Telecaster & Cloud guitars are normal sized.
I think I have read that the Cloud is a 24 & 3/4 scale guitar, but that is the same as Gibson guitars. It doesn't mean they are 3/4 sized.
Just look at the Telecaster (Hohner) guitar on Prince. It looks huge! |

The Hohner Teles and the Fender Strats are "normal" scale guitars (25.5"). The Cloud guitars have the "Gibson" scale - 24.75”. "He's a musician's musician..." |

Not all of his guitars are to scale, but the answer to your questions is yes. He has guitars made to scale for his small frame.
The cloud guitar isn't normal sized, to my eyes. The clouds look small, thin, and frail in Prince's hands. Look at them when they are in a normal-sized person (about half a foot taller than he and maybe 100lbs) and the guitar looks even smaller and absurdly so. |

The video of Ron Wood playing one of the Clouds (blue, I think) at Camden in '88 is hilarious! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I guess I need to clarify... Even though the Cloud guitar is a custom guitar, there is nothing custom about it having the "Gibson" scale of 24.75". Most every Gibson guitar has this scale, as well as several other manufacturers.

exactly, it might be a bit smaller in the body than a Gibson, but that doesn't affect the playability of it. It's a normal sized guitar. |
