I've shifted my position on Emancipation from completely loathing it when it came out to liking about half of it. White Mansions ok I guess, there's just about another 500 songs I'd rather hear him play live though

I really like that song and also My Computer. Usually, when Prince gets personal in his music, it's about love and sex. Those two songs were different in that they were very personal but more about friendship and loneliness. I would put Old Friends 4 Sale (the original version) in the same category. Nice view-I think I love it cuz it kinda gives you a hint as to what he went thru with WB with his songs and such and his strength not to conform, but stay true to his music

"White Mansion" reminds me of some of Joni Mitchell's songwriting where she talks about her fame and how it affects her relations with other people (like "For Free," "Furry Sings the Blues," and the whole album For the Roses). I can see the point of view of those who would prefer to have seen Emancipation cut down to a two-disc or one-disc album, but the problem is that the songs that I would cut might be your favorites. I LOOOOOVVVEEEE this song! I love when he says ,"Sell my publishing, what a laugh, I don't know Bo but I do know math," don't know why but I love that line- and talking about not being able to find his house beneath the snow always reminded me of when I lived in Wisconsin......

I had an option to buy Emancipation yesterday and instead I opted for NEWS and The Rainbow Children. I guess I'll have to go back and get Emancipation now:-)

I kind of liked it when the album dropped. Now, I will only listen to it for about a minute.

When it comes to songs about the color of houses, this is my second-favorite. I still like John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" better.

Yes! When I moved back to the South and it hardly ever snowed, I would listen to this song when I wanted to remember how nice it was being snowed in in Wisconsin- it always took me back......

It's one of my favorite tracks off Emancipation. I absolutely love it up till the "Check out that ass!" part, which is funny yet utterly out of place on the song.
But the rest of White Mansion is really wonderful. The vocals are superb.

"my computer" and "big white mansion" are my favorite songs on the emancipation album.
love the bass on it. and the fuzztone (is that what it's called?) and although it gets a bit too much on some other emancipation tracks, i do love the harmonizing of his own vocals on this one.
it's been so low, reaching up for ground one day i'm gonna make it in this lonely town
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
