Hmm...much like Ginuwine when he redid "When Doves Cry", the Glee folks dont need Prince's permission.
Warner Brothers' okay will do. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

Glee sucks. Let them mutilate somebody else's music and leave Prince alone.

1. I like the show. Most people who dismiss it have never watched it. It's fun light entertainment, take it for what it is. And it covers important issues like the gay character Kurt who has to deal with a homophobic bully who himself is in the closet, repressed and ashamed of himself. First season they covered teen pregnancy and giving the child up for adoption.
2. The music is generally well chosen and fits the characters and vocal styles of the cast. Every artist who has had songs on the show has had a huge boost in catalogue sales. Some have even sold so many records off the back of it that years-old songs have jumped right back to the top of the Billboard because of it.
3. Prince is getting paid. Eminem received something like $300k to allow Glee to use one of his songs.
4. The PR will be great from it and bring Prince new fans who will discover more of his epic catalogue.
5. They don't specifically need his permission to cover the song anyway. |
