This is an awesome opportunity for people to lavish praise on Prince instead of fighting with people who criticize Prince and yet I don't see a damn post. Where's Whiskas at, get Whiskas up in here.

It may just be better to wait and be sure it happens first. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Cool. I really had a lot of respect when P was doing grassroots social activity linked with his live and web action around the time of L4OA - the food drives, workshops etc. Glad to see there's some of that still happening. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

If it's a financial donation it's probably a tax dodge knowing Mr. Number One at the Bank

Congrats to the recipients and big props to Princey. It's becoming more difficult for these kinds of organizations to get funded in this economy. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I wish there would be more be more threads accenting Prince's charity contributions over the years, that would be really nice.
I just got done re-reading parts of DMSR and came across the Marva Collins Chicago school story, in which Prince did somewhat of a benefit for her school, Westside Preparatory School for students dubbed as problem learners in 1983 i believe. Raised $10,000 and gave it all to her. He even came in and sat in the back of the classroom as the kids continued doing what they were doing. He was very fond of the school and Marva, resulting in a lasting friendship over several years. She even appeared in the 1994 The Most Beautiful Girl In the World video.
Sorry 4 being halfway off topic. I saw my chance 2 express and took it Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

^I remember reading about that. I think it's awesome the kids from the Childrens' Harlem Zone will be on stage with him, when he announces the donations for the 3 organizations chosen to receive the donations. It's always good to hear positive news like this.
I'm surprised this thread is not a sticky or a featured article on the front page of this forum. [Edited 2/6/11 8:41am]

This is awesome! That was the point of all of the concerts here in NYC to help give back to the schools and to see that Prince is following through with that just shows that Prince is not the bad guy that a lot of people here love to see him as. I can't wait to see Prince on Monday and see what happens with the charities as I expect him to say something about it but if not, its cool. I hope that the media will be there and that I'll see reports here in NY Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Great news I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

There has been.
Upwards of 13 years ago when the food drives and such happened, it was a big idea and everyone was very encouraged by this. They would post on the L41A site, specifically, all the info for the food donations. The climate in Prince World was much different back then.

Recall that the American Ballet Theater is the organization that Misty Copeland works under. She was the dancer in Prince's second MSG concert and the only black ballet performer in the ABT. SHe is an acclaimed soloist ballerina. That Prince would give to this organization must be a recognition of his appreciation of her talents.

What's going on Monday? Prince continues his mission to pay forward the knowledge and pave the way for the next generation to attain its greatness. On Monday the music icon will bestow special gifts upon the Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), The Uptown Dance Academy, and the American Ballet Theatre during a 4:45 pm press conference featuring HCZ's President and CEO Geoffrey Canada and students of the community-based educational organization. Representatives from the Uptown Dance Academy and the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) will also be on hand. Monday's concert, which will be opened by the dynamic musical artist Cee Lo Green, marks the close of the first leg of Prince's phenomenally successful "Welcome 2 America" tour, one of the highest grossing recent tours in the country. At the press conference, 30 students of the Harlem Children's Zone--chosen for their musical aspirations--will get to stand on the stage of the world's most famous arena. After the press opportunity, the youngsters will get to meet Prince and the New Power Generation band and to interact with make-up, wardrobe and technical professionals for the show backstage.
