the art of music

Prince's music is his art. Who are we to judge? Did anyone tell Picasso How to paint? Do it this way don't do it that way? We should all just be thankful that he shares it with the world. It always inspires me. Thank you for the joy of music.

Hi Mew.... "the art" is in the eyes of the beholder........ biggrin

what I believe in is brilliant about Prince's music - others may find ordinary.

Imo Lovesexy is a true masterpiece, but N.E.W.S. - the CD - is pure garbage.

Others may see this very differently???

There has been several ordinary / average album releases since Prince left Warner.

why can't you and some org'ers here understand that different opinions are good? biggrin

and - I'm sure Picasso has made several bad paintings too. Those can't be equally good all of them.

Of course negativity can't be fun all the time.. but I'm sure most Prince fans (99%) loves the old Prince music, 1978-1995 - or at least the classics 1980-1987.

sorry for my bad english, and this very too long post...... wink

You can have an opinion on art. You may like it, you may not. Sometimes, a lot of people like it. Then it's considered good art.

When people draw a picture while they are not good at drawing, most other people don't like it. Then it's considered bad art.

This principle usually works pretty well. Things start to mess up, when some people think they are more capable of judging art than others. The org is full of these people. They think they can declare something "good" or "bad", because they think so. They think they can speak for a group, which is, as you might have noticed, the exact same thing I'm doing here. But it all doesn't matter, because most people on the org don't care about anything that's being said here and I think that really is the right approach to both Prince's fanbase and life. Don't get pissed at what you don't like, just don't care.

Music is art. You can like it, and you should decide not to give a shit what others think of that. No one's life depends on it. It's not important whether other people are grateful for what you are grateful of, so stop bothering about it. Have a great day.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

But there is a catch. Everyone is entitled to a different opinion..that's great. Where things get messy is when people start stating these opinions as fact/truth. See the underlined above. That happens a lot around here..and online in general.

Prince's music is his art -> Agreed.

Who are we to judge -> Well, we're 'only' the people who decide to buy his music or not or who decide to go see him live or not. That's being someone.

Did anyone tell Picasso how to paint? -> Directly, his teachers. Indirectly, his critics and his contemporaries.

We should all just be thankful that he shares it with the world -> My ass. He doesn't 'share' anything, he SELLS it. It's HIM who should be thankful. Especially when he promises something, takes the money and runs (lotusfailure anyone?).

It'd be great if you came down from your cloud and stepped on firm ground...

Did people who bought Picasso's art tell him how to paint? Probably if they commissioned him to paint..maybe not even then.

Tell me, are you commissioning Prince to make music/art for you? Nope.

Like the people who chose to buy Picasso's art after he completed it, you choose to buy

Prince's art once he's done. That's your choice. Just like it was to sign up for lotusflow3r.com. Disagree or agree?

Critics are not a 21st century invention. I'm quite sure Picasso had a few during his time alive - just as every other artist did.

Anyway, I don't think Picasso is the point of this thread.

The point of this thread seems to be that apparently we should be grateful because Prince SELLS us his music and he gets OUR MONEY in exchange.

Thanks, Prince!!
