No...I really don't think he is.
Actually in a mellow way that is what the lyrics are about. How 2 people analize and try to figure each other out...
But you don't like the songs so your gonna try and start something
But if your in an argumentaive mood, ... not with me darlin
Honey...it's "analyzed." Analyzed. Not analized - which means something totally different. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Among the hits i can understand any of the following being called Prince's best song: WDC, I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, Sign of the times, Purple Rain, Kiss, Rasperry Beret, 1999, Little Red Corvette, 7 etc
Among the non hits i can see any of the following being called his best song: She's Always in My Hair, 17 Days, Erotic City, Mountains, Computer Blue, If I Was your Girlfriend etc
I can understand if any of the above songs are called Prince's best song. And ofcourse there are other candidates too. But i still stand by what i said about Wonderful Ass, its a fun and catchy song, but i dont find it brilliant like the songs i listed above. Yes it may have been a hit on the radio, its a good song but not brilliant.
Oh you were responding to me?
I responded to your mention of the lyrics not being brilliant (that's what you said originally)
I think the lyrics are just as similar to She's Always In My Hair, 17 Days, I Could Never Take the Place...
I wish we could get a finished product and it would give a better opinion about the music. Which again I don't find the music all that so it's P's best song... I don't agree with that at all. Power Fantastic is
But the music does feel good, it's seriously dancible in the lines of 17 Days, DMSR |

Fine. You go on talking about people being analized. I'm sure it was merely wishful thinking on your part, anyway. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

On a side note, I have to say I'd love to be explained the reason for this kind of threads.
The OP thinks it's Prince's best song? OK, so be it. Nothing can be argued about PERSONAL tastes.
That's why I'm clueless as to why a question like this is asked...
I think you would better understand it if you considered it a rhetorical question.
The OP is NOT trying to start an argument, but to celebrate a song, he or she really loves.
You take it too literally.
So, the right question would perhaps be: Why do people need to celebrate their personal tastes and tell others about them?
Well, it probably has to do with the existential questions in life: We all try to reach out and feel we are not totally alone in the world.
In other words: This thread is based on the same need that makes the org exist at all - celebrating our love for Prince's music (for some: the love of Prince's body etc.). |

BTW, I've always loved this song since first listen. But not even close to his 'best' songs (according to my personal taste). I especially love version #1, which is Prince's 1983 raw demo and of which we only have a snippet circulating and in awful quality.
[Edited 2/1/11 9:17am]
A better question for me is why you're so concerned about threads like these, every post i've seen by you is something along the lines of "omg why make this thread its pointless" if you don't like a thread just don't post in it! the thread has already been made so the only thing more pointless than said pointless thread is a pointless comment saying the pointless thread is pointless, see my point? |

In addition, though, its also a breeding ground for trolling. When an OP makes such a really bad, awful original post, it leaves much room for deviation and deviate it has (down to people bickering about who is right about Prince's intentions w/ the song).
It'd be cool if someone chose to write an original post that didn't contain simply a sentence fragment. |

No... lol.
Is it your best Prince song?
Mine "could be" Electric Intercourse... but there are just so many to choose from. |

On the other hand, it gets a little trite when subjects are in the other extreme, when they get too specific:
Like: "Don't you just find the snare drum at 3:34 in the extended version of When 2 R in Love so much more indicative of where Prince was headed in the late eighties than the much celebrated hihat at 4:12 of I Wish U heaven live at Bransboro in August 89? What do you think his intentions were using such an original sound at that specific time and place?" |

It's one of his best unreleased songs. I love it. I can put it on repeat 10 times and not get tired of it but when you combine released and unreleased, no it's not one of his best. That's just my 2 cents. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that |
