Question: What was the very first song that Prince ever wrote? Has he ever revealed that in an interview or something? I think that based on the fact that he has such a huge amount of songs it would be very interesting to know a bit about his first attempts on making music, like; the name of the song, when he wrote it and if he has it on tape. (BTW, has anyone heard it??) Maybe it could say something in one of the Per Nielsen books for those who have read them, cos´I understand that he has severe Prince knowledge.

I have read that "just another sucker" was the first song he wrote the lyrics of as part of a recording project.

but i suspect he like most middle/high school kids, wrote songs or poems well before anything he ever recorded or preformed.

One of the earliest Prince compositions mentioned in The Vault is a Prince penned song called "Machine." The song is described as having had a strong sexual content and compared in graphic detail a woman to a machine.

The song was part of 'Grand Central Corporation's' repertoire, in which Prince was a member. This was mentioned in a paragraph dating to early 1975.

The first real Prince songs mentioned (of which are entirely Prince's compositions) are in the summer of 1976. They were recorded at Chris Moons studios and the Prince penned songs listed are Baby, I'm Yours, Since We've Been Together, Leaving For New York and the instrumental Jelly Jam. All other songs recorded at this time were written by both Chris Moon and Prince.

Not saying this is 100% fact, but that is what is quoted in the book.

I was called something like "Prince Nelson finds getting known is hard"

But I do not recall any mention of that song. I think he mentioned "machine" in a radio interview in 1981 in the UK. (the date is sometimes said to be 1979 as Prince fibs about his age by 2 years.)

And as i said in my post, i'm just going by what is printed in The Vault. And it mentions that Pepe Willie arranged for his friend Dale Menton to take a look at Grand Central Corporation.

The band set up in Mentons "Cook House" studio and ran through their songs. One of which was the Prince penned track "Machine."

This was early 1975.

According to DMSR, Prince said he wrote his first song at age 7 & it was titled "Funk Machine"
