Sea of Everything

This is such a pretty song even though its kind of sad. Especially the line that goes,

"Theres no need to say I'd die without you, because I may, what will you do?"

and the line that says, "we are like two ships passing."

Does this song make you sad?

That line is like Prince saying you may never get to see me in concert again, and we'd have to wander the wilderness looking for a good song. I'll try to sleep through it rather than cry next time.

one of his most lazy ballads ever. prince doing so-so mid tempo and fast songs has

simply become a given, you take them as they come. but his ballads have always

remained at the very least interesting and just sweet or beautiful. this one, though,

is just boring. it just doesn't go anywhere at all and then it fizzles out. pfffft.

Sea of Everything is rather sad but is a nice tune to listen to. Yet I really don't get it. Prince could probably have anyone he wants so why would he say those things?

I think it's lovely, charming and kind of sad. "Will you settle for a Prince?" How sweet is that???

That is the way I look at it, it sounds like Prince has someone in mind that he is speaking to directly, and he is saying that they will pass eachother and never reach the shore.

My favourite ballad of 20ten. It makes me think and get meloncholy not sleepy.

I think he addresses women who never find their soul mate because their list of criteria is too high. Do they settle for what they have or continue the search?

And simulataneously I think it's about women in his life. They step into the world of stardom expecting perfection, but when it all boils down to brass tacks, even a Prince is just a man. So will they settle for that, once the spotlight and initial attraction has worn off?

The song is a quest for true love. Sometimes not getting what you want, like two ships passing, can be the greatest romance of all. The unknown remains a mystery, never to be made bare, and the enchantment and urge lives on without ever unravelling. But will it bring reward, that is the question. I think anyway. cool

he also says...if we ever did : we just want more & more, which opens up for a possibility yes

I see your picture wherever I go
I'm not here to lecture, just letting you know
I know you're busy, the world's calling you
If you don't answer what will you do?

You wander the wilderness
Searching for a king
Will you settle for a prince
And a sea of everything?

I read your letter, every word
No one writes better, at least none that I've heard
You sound so happy or is this a charade?
Will you still feel the same when the spotlight fades?

Will you wander the wilderness
Searching for a king?
Will you settle for a prince
And a sea of everything?

You and me are like two ships passing
Never reaching shore
If we ever, ooh, if we ever did
We'd just want more

No reason to care what people say
For the keys are so far, so far, so far away
No need to say, no need
To say I'd die without you, without you
Because I made, I made, what will you do?

Will you wander the wilderness
Searching for a king
Or will you settle for this
And a sea of everything?

I really like how you have put your thoughts together. Settling is a word that can also mean contentment after the hot fires of passion become everlasting embers. I believe that true love will always reach this point when two people can be grateful for love that lasts through it all.

Holding somebody is just as rewarding as all of that wild playing around.

Lazy??? only if youve only superficially listened to it... the arrangement and composition of it is actually quite much more involved than the majority of ballads he's put together in the last 15 years...

Change it one more time..

I also prefer this to Future Soul Song - MUCH prefer it. Future Soul Song (aside from Everybody Loves Me, of course!) is my least favorite track on 20TEN. Sea of Everything is one of my favorites...and it's definitely my favorite ballad. I also dig Walk in Sand, but the background vocals on Sea of Everything make it stand out in my mind.

I especially love when the background vox sing, "I'd die without you," and then "Wiiiiiiiilderne-ehssss!" Ahhh, so purty. smile

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I like the album, but this is one of my least favorite songs on it. It doesn't have much of a melody and it's another in the One The Couch/Satisfied vein but with added drum machine and less effort. It's alright, but very unmemorable. And the lyrics are a bit loopy. He heard letter? Kind of sloppy. Needs more work.

That's a nice thing to say. We hear of people that have been happily married 20 years or more. These couples say they have the most satisfying sexual intimacy now than they did when they first met because of the closeness from the friendship that has endured.
