I dunno bout the divisions between house, trance, techno, etc

all seem silly to me. It's all easily identifiable as dance club music with occasional gems here and there, but really... if you've played around with sequencing and knobs of an synth then you know how easy it is to come up with the skeleton of that shit. Throw on a fragmented vocals of some soul singer with echo, or tweak the EQ to bring it out like an AM radio and then flange it back in at full range, ... oh yeah you can also create a dramatic moment with some hyper repetition of the snare to a climax...

and just speed up the tempo of the typical beat with hihats to a "complex" extreme and you get jungle?

Okay maybe I haven't heard a lot of this stuff, I could be wrong!

I love 'Human Body'. I remember when it came out it felt different from a more typical funk/pop song P was known for. Dunno if I'd call it techno or house but it's a good dance track. Songs like Loose! Or Melt with U try too hard to sound 'techno'

Okay maybe I haven't heard a lot of this stuff, I could be wrong!

Yes you are wrong!

I'm from Chicago and Chicago is the birthplace of real house music. REAL house music. ALOT of the stuff that is passing for "house" music now, or being called "house" is not House Music. Yes there are differences, and yes different forms of techno, club, dance, electro exist but the fact of the matter is, they have ALL came from the original House music.

If we are talking the early years of Prince pre-1999, then NO Prince has never done a House music track, sorry he hasn't. Disco, yes, House no.

Now he has played around with techno and electro beats and stuff like that but real House music is not this crap that is being passed as House music now. mad

I am a house head and yes, some of these record labels are doing some deep house but it still isn't based off the original beats that made up the deep house sound. Alot of it is based off of remixes and chillout beats, which is also part of the House Music genre.

I can go on and on about this but um no, real house music, there is a difference and Prince ain't NEVER done a house track.

But I too love The Human Body lol

Loved it from the first minute and still do.

Electronic music can still be intelligent and soulful if it's done well.

It can also be awfully funky. razz

I like it. I like it. A lot.

I know it's not a strictly techno tune, but to me (and I'm not a techno professional) The Human Body has a techno feel to it. That's just me.

I really like the lyrics.

Good god. Its not "Techno" at all. Its Prince's bad attempt at european house.

The USA have never really gotten it. Its only in the last few years that the likes of Black eyed peas, Gaga and Madge has fully embraced the sound, ahead of standard US RnB drivel.

Without starting an Atlantic war, any European that has frequented a local club in the last 5 years knows that the US mainstream are 20 years behind on this.

eyealso like the rest of Emancipation it was experimental. Prince touched on various styles of music including house, Techno, adult contemporary & the first album in Prince's career to include cover versions of songs written by other songwriters and eye thought it was very well put together, consisting of three discs, each containing 12 songs with exacly 60 minutes per disc. Disk 2 being my favorite Dedicated 2 his unborn child and ex wife Mayte garcia Its the most romantic 2 disk since Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life". Which I'll bet anything was the inspiration of it.. 2 bad the inspiration didn't turn out good 4 Prince...prince

Yeah, from what I know House music started in Chicago but is nothing really like what we could call "House" today.

I'm glad someone has the sense to see where I'm coming from. Controversy is one of the first electronica/house/techno songs from 1981. By no means am I saying Prince invented the genre.

I like "The Human Body" for what it is and enjoy listening to it. I don't have a problem with anyone calling it "techno" - because that's such an umbrella term - but it's quite clear to me that he still couldn't get away from approaching the piece like he was making a yet another electronic funk track. "New World" is a whole lot better though.

Everything u said is spot on. And Drum and Bass is not called Jungle anymore, it was created in the UK(mainly London) dance scene with heavy influence from Jamaican Dub music, which is a branch of the now Dubstep.

Also I love The human body. I like majority of Princes albums from the 90s, I thought they were much more diverse.

I dont think it was so much the songwriting was an issue it was the drum programming....I bet if there were some more tunes with live instrumentation or ...away from the drum machine he was using at that time it could have been a little more 'deep' sounding. Like I said, it was the texture of the album...very mid-90's instrumentation going on with those drum machines used....cheap and thin sounding. I like the fact he picked it up recently...they sound a bit harder.

True, Chicago was the birthplace. Starback, you should read the book "last night a dj saved my life"

the history of the disc jockey. It's a good read.
