I hate it when Prince can't get as emotional live... as he appears to be on record. I guess that's what's bound to happen when you perform a song many times over. I found that to be the case when I saw him seemingly just run through the routine of performing Days Of Wild as the finale to the Paris concert last year.
Of course, the reverse can also true. Sometimes a song is brought to life when you hear it live whereas on record, it had appeared lifeless. The acoustic version of One Kiss At A Time live at the London Apollo on the final night was breathtaking and made me listen to it with a new appreciation. What have been your experiences of this?

What? What? What? That was a KICK-ASS version of Days Of Wild!! Something was lacking for me. I wanted to see the song performed with menace but instead the vibe felt somewhat cheesy. Like, here we go again, these really are the Days Of Wild. To me, it really didn't feel like Liz was being bumped at all. Ok, so you'll probably disagree with me about Days Of Wild but what about Sometimes It Snows In April. I'm sorry but it did not feel like Tracy just died that night in Paris. You had to love The Ladder though(minus the preach),and Sign O The Times!!! Again, I love The Ladder and it was the first time I was seeing this live but it seemed just this side of stale. That surprsied me. I think it might have been more soulful with Prince just at the piano. Sign O The Times kicked it, especially that ending with Takumi.

I know he's not a robot but sometimes his performances do seem, automatic. And by that I mean, lifeless. I just find that especially disappointing when you're all excited to see him live and then numb when he fails to take songs to the next level. People may have felt the same way about the way he performed How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore or Anna Stesia last year compared to other shows earlier on in his career.

If Only I was a Prince girl Cherriepips, are you equating Prince not looking at his audience with his occasionally lacklustre performance of songs? What is it with you, Calhoun, Handclaps and Natasha that make you fantasize about his looks just as much as his music? I can imagine your concert experiences must be that much more intense.

heyheyheyheyheyyy!!! do not compare me, cherrie and calhoun 2 tasha...that chick's got her own boat 2 float on... I am just making a general point that you people with your fantasies about making love to Prince have potentially more to be disappointed about during a concert. It doesn't appear that it's just about the music for you. For example, Cherriepips being disappointed about Prince not making eye contact. I think putting you all in the same category in this case is fine. We're not talking about mental capabilities here.

If there's a celebration this year, don't miss it. At the 2002 cele the emotions were running high like cloudnine and coming from all sides of the room staring on the front stage and seeping as far back as the ladies room. I've never had so much fun! "Choochie, choocie, choo", Mommy said to the little baby.

Sounds like quite an experience. I take it he consistently goes all out at the Celebration? That would make sense given it's for the hardcore. Thankfully, we got a mini acoustic set at the London Apollo on the final night.

My favorites were Maceo, Rochelle Farrell, and Bernard Alison (I think) and of course Price out did himself. I think he had the most fun. . Yeah songs like Sometimes It Snows in April and most of the piano medley seem a little like standard run thrus. The song that really impressed me on the ONA tour and was perhaps his best rendition ever was Sign O The Times. Delivered with real passion and some electric guitar playing.

I completely agree about Sign O The Times, especially with that distorted, reverberating sound he tended to leave it on, and that bass and guitar playing throughout, hit hard. I actually also found the aftershows really good too. London Marquee and Paris Bataclan were really something else.
