Darius Rucker covers Purple Rain...

I just saw a clip of Darius Rucker covering Purple Rain. I was quite shocked but happy to see the country music fans screaming when this song started!!! I like that little country twist that he put on it. Kinda makes me wonder now how Prince would sound doing mainstream country, similar to Darius Rucker's style. I thought his little country accent ("They aint?")on The Muppets was so cute! biggrin

What do you think about the countried-up version of Purple Rain? Prince and Darius collaborating? Prince doing country?

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Does this mean Prince will cover Hootie and the Blowfish at the next concert?

RodeoSchro

I saw him do it two years ago at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Nothing country about his cover at all. It was awesome.

(BTW, for those that don't know, the crowd at his Rodeo performance at Reliant Stadium was about 70,000. This is a big show, not come country fair!)

Another time at the Rodeo, in a smaller venue called the Hideout (about 1,000 people, and it IS a honky-town type venue), I can't remember the act but the singer said, "OK y'all, we do this one for our guitar player!" And yep - they launched into "Purple Rain" and I have to say - their guitar player did really tear it up!

So rest easy America and the world - guitar players from every genre know a great guitar song when they hear it! And so do their fans!

This reminds me of a rumor I heard recently.

I need the Prince aficionados to come out and clarify. (Squirrelgrease, BorisFishPaw, OldFriends4Sale, anyone...)

I heard that Prince released a country song under a different name.

Details??

I've always enjoyed Darius as a vocalist and I feel he is one of the better performers in contemporary country music. I don't really care when people cover P's music, but this has my interest peaked.

I don't care for the idea of Prince doing country music, but I wouldn't be opposed to an acoustic double album with a lot blues and some twang.

Check it out on that popular site, I think its from last year, South Carolina I believe. Darius has an amazing voice, he has that little twang in his voice.

I like the idea of an acoustic, bluesy type cd from Prince too! I have no doubt he would amazing, the little blues that he's done had impressed me.
