Remember when Prince NEVER used to talk to the audience live?

usually it was a tight show...im talking PURPLE RAIN,PARADE,SOTT,LOVESEXY etc

Prince wouldnt say shit to the audience unless it was PART of the show

then about 95-he started cracking jokes and getting more personable...

anyhow...culminating i guess in the ONA tour..especially the soundchecks!!

To me it was really the ONA shows and the music club where he tried to change his image of being "inaccessible". Jam of the Year tour was still "far" Prince.

Outside of an opening "this is not a concert it's a ..." to a closing "Good night"

or "If you think you're going to drive Prince's little red corvette..." "this is Wendy...she wants to live forever"

I loved those little lines that we got Pre-1990's

But love the feel of peering into Prince's world on stage.

You get those photos from the For U- Dirty Mind/Controvery were it looks like we are looking into his basement while the band jams

Or like we are watching a musical happening behind the stage with Prince and his friends during the 1999 - Parade years

I know it's probably been discussed before, but what did he preach about for hours? And was it surreal listening to Prince talk so much? Did it make him seem more normal?

So, do you all think it was better for Prince's mystique to speak less at concerts?

I like it when performers talk during the sets. Telling stories, cracking jokes, in the end it doesn't feel like a "performance" it feels more like a party where everybody knows eachother and everybody's old friends.

I think its much better for his mystique. But it seems like he wanted go completely anti-mystique in many ways in the 2000's

you know when i was there just after hearing the rainbow children for the first time i was talking on the open mic and saying how embarassing it was to be a prince fan and how i never tell people at work cuz of the shit he wore and changing his name to a scribble and other weird shit, and then someone else asked "is this being filmed", and i turned round and fucking silent bob was there with a camera filming me roast prince inside paisley park

what else was weird was the first time i went to paisley i stayed in a super 8 opposite the eden prairie mall, along from paisley. i wondered why the first time i went to an american mall, the place seemed familair. i later found out that was where mallrats was shot, and the laserdisc commentry of clerks was recorded during the shooting of mallrats

kevin never got to take any of the footage away with him though, btw. it remains in the vaults. and kevin is a prince fan, he was at the rave un2 gig as a fan

I miss the days when the third encore was an incoherent long-form sermon. That shit was awsome.

eek OMG that would have been awesome!!! A few FB fans and I were just talking about how awesome it would be to sit and listen to Prince talk about GOD and scripture!! He is so wise and in touch with spirituality, plus he has a great speaking voice, very soothing to the soul. I could sit and listen to him talk for hours!! Ughhh, hate I missed those moments!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I'd have been tempted to interrupt. "So, in the real world..." Go from there.

Did anybody?

actually there was the time when i was in the studio with prince and someone else you've heard of, and they were correcting him. unfortunately i can't go into much detail, but it was fucking fascinating to hear someone speak to him like that and for him to take it and answer back and not leave and give an actual serious answer

talking to the audience at a live show is fine. great, even. it's all that other bullshit he talks when he's on TV, in magazines, etc., that's got to go.

"does my cock look fat in these jeans?"
