I said it before, I'm sure, but Sophie B. Hawkins' "Damn, Wish I Was Your Lover," always makes me think Prince wrote it. Besides the obvious wanting-to-be-someone's-lover part, the lyrics are what make me think he wrote it:

"You're the only shoe that fits
I can't imagine I'll grow out of it"

and all the parts about being someone's mother and being free... just seems like something he'd write...~

Now I know it wasn't Prince singing, but I did think he wrote the song One of Us performed by JO (At least when I first heard the song) and then soon found out he didn't. It just sounds like a Prince song. Of course Prince covered the song on Emancipation.

The last time I heard a song that I thought was Prince was a year or so ago when the Jadore commercial came out. Something about the vocals, music, tempo, and visuals had me wondering for a bit if maybe it was him. I read the comments and was relieved to know I wasn't totally alone...

Sounds more like Prince on the television. shrug

I thought the same thing when I heard this commerical, I had to Google it to make sure. it would make a great cover song for Prince, I would buy the Single.

D'Angelo and Maxwell confused me. I thought that D'angelo was like a Camille type persona that P was trying out for the first time.

lol Georgio was badass...I never thought it was Prince, but many people i've had discussions with have thought so.

How Does It Feel (Untitled) by DeAngelo made my peeps call me up...A NEW PRINCE SONG IS ON THE RADIO!!!

I associate Georgio with this song more than any other, the lyrics have Prince written all over them.

Listen to this song by one of his projects (Mazarati), it wouldn't be hard to convince someone that it's Prince:

I have the album, there's some really good songs on it.

Cross Town Traffic-Jimi Hendrix. It's the backing vocal "..Crooosss Townn TraFFic". Something bout the "...Traffic" particularly. I don't beleive any of us could say Prince doesn't have a time machine with 100% certainty.

How ironic, I remember back in the 80's listening to a N.Y R&B station and hearing Tina Cherry for the first time, for some odd reason, I thought it was Prince doing some type of falsetto and strong base, later I found out that it was Georgio.

nod Yeah, that song has always reminded me of a Prince jam too.

The only Prince song I knew was Kiss and so when I heard MJ's Don't stop til you get enough, I thought it was Prince singing those high notes.

The band that you're referring to is Ready For The World. They were big for a couple of years during the mid 80's. I know Sheila E was feeling real special during that period because the movie Krush Groove was out. She also had Glamorous Life and Love Bizarre as hits. Name another popular artist during that period with the name Sheila...

I remember I was in Minneapolis the summer of 1991 and Natural Selection's "Do Anything" was on the radio....I could swear that was a new release from the upcoming July release of Diamonds and Pearls....didn't come out 'til Oct and "Do Anything" was someone else.

Yeah, "Oh Shiela" was one and anyone that says they didn't think that was a Prince song is not being 100% honest.

Of course, "Hey Hannigan". LOL.

I remember driving down the road and we popped in Janet Jackson's "Decade" album. I didn't know her songs but after hearing the first five or six, I told my wife, "Either Prince wrote these, produced these, or had something to do with them". I was not surprised to find that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced and wrote them.

Finally, when I first heard "The Game of Love" by Michelle Branch/Santana, I was pretty sure there was some Prince influence in it. Turns out it was the other way around - Prince was heavily into Santana at the time, and that's why I thought the solo sounded like Prince.

Do Anything had some kind of connection with Ingrid Chavez as I recall

I still think Groove Eternal and Dance To The Music by Boosty Collins has some kind of contribution from Prince. The singer is The One, but the lyrics and vocal phrasing has a real Prince feel to them, not to mention the songs quote directly from Prince "Body don't want to quit, got have another hit".

Absolutely agree. I know it's The One singing, but i'm so sure it's Prince speaking with Bootsy in the opening sequence of Groove Eternal
