Chelsea Rodgers - a potential classic runined by awful lyrics! So sad and so true. Serioulsy when the bass kicks in, then the horns and then P's 1st lines you think DAYUM! HE'S BACK!. Then the rest of the lyrics kick in and the balloon is deflated. I know his lyrics are heartfelt and sung with good intentions but there's a time to preach theology and there's a time to groove - this should have been the latter!.

I love this tune - and especially the lyrics. I don't think its preachy at all. x

I disagree. The lyrics are sensible. One of his best anti-slut songs...

That line is hot. A little open mind can go a long way. x

there are those lines about Moses and the Pharaoh, but they're almost indeceipherable while you're listening. not too bad as far as quasi-relgious, quasi-philisophical non-sequiturs go in otherwise sensible Prince songs.

it is weird how so many otherwise GREAT songs are ruined by bad words, music, or performance... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I really don't see the preachy theology in this one. I know he mentions Moses, etc., but it's not like he's heavy-handed with any doctrine here.
In fact, I find his use of "BCE" rather than "BC" to be rather surprisingly progressive of him.
Dang, I'm making a lot of typos today edit.

there has to be one | |

I picked up on that too. I think it might have more to do with the rhyme more than anything else though!

Hi nurse: I really dislike this song too..... and I don't understand those who says this is a classic funk Prince track. There's some pseudo sound all over it. Yuck.
We just disagree about this song being a great track, some of us...

I'm with you on this one. I don't even have this song on my iPod. I think you hit the mark with the music is good but there is just something about what he is singing that just doesn't make any kind of connection for me. I think this might be a case where a lyric like "I like it when you Dance 4 Me" gets the job done "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Awful, it ain't! The lyrics sound (to me) like his modern-day "Girl O' My Dreams".
"...leather seat..."???
