Best quality boot of Aug '83 First Ave show?

Looking to upgrade from my old Moonraker CD release of this show and wondering what the best quality audio boot of this show is?

I think it's in one of the Purple Rush's right, but I guess there's a spiffier, newer version by now?

I'd say Purple Rush Volume 5

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

The 2008 edition was only an updated version of Purple Rush 1, originally from 2002.

No other Purple Rush editions have been updated.

Hmmm. OK, thanks folks.

I thought I had come across a newer/tweaked/better version since Purple Rush, but I guess not. I have Purple Rush too, so that solves that. smile

Sadly this show has not been given the once over by 4DF, FBG or (i don't think) any other free labels.

I'm not certain of other labels having it in better quality though. Squirrel or Vitriol will have a better idea than me.

wink

COMMENT

Disc 1 contains the classic First Avenue 1983 concert which spawned the Purple Rain album versions of 'I Would Die 4 U', 'Baby I'm A Star'
and of course 'Purple Rain'. The recording has been sourced from the circulating video footage, and because of this the audio suffers
from the same glitches the video footage does. These are slight, very minor and affect only a small part of the show.
They are most obvious during the opening 'Let's Go Crazy, 'When You Were Mine' and again during the intro to 'Purple Rain'.
Sabotage have attempted some repair work on the tracks, and have done a pretty decent job of patching up the incomplete parts with a different
source recording. As this is sourced from a video recording it has a slightly gritty feel to it and is certainly not as crisp and clear as one
would like - that said it is an improvement over the various other releases this show is circulating on and is undoubtedly the best we
have to date. The show has quite rightly earned itself legendary status for reasons including the birth of many Purple Rain tracks and Wendy's
live debut as a member of The Revolution - however mention must also be given to the performance which is inspired and amongst the best of
Prince's career. Full length live versions of tracks such as 'Computer Blue and 'Purple Rain' are special enough however add to the mix the
only live performance of the unreleased 'Electric Intercourse' and it's quite impressive how many unique moments are stuffed into the 65
minute concert. And I shan't even mention the closing funk jam of 'D.M.S.R.'

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that every single audio boot of this show was sourced from varying generations of VHS tape. Too bad, because what a historic concert. We all know Prince had that semi-trailer mobile studio parked outside recording it, but there has to be a decent soundboard-recorded audio tape in someone's possession.

I would love this in better quality than Purple Rush.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Indeed.

The FBG rehearsals are a nice thing though.

The mobile truck captured those two amazing Minneapolis shows in 1982 too, 7th and 8th March.

Gotta love the First Ave v2.0!!! My fav is When U Were Mine and Still Waiting with SueAnne Carwell (think that's her name). Many will say they dislike her wailing, but it's awesomeness to me and u could tell Prince even loved it when he was adding his usual Prince embellishments on the backing vocal mikes

A better version of what's really out definitely exists, but it hasn't yet been released by anybody.

Don't quote me on this because I'm not much into DVDs, but I'd say that by now Fullasoul's The Making of the Rain features the best video as well as the best audio.

I was kind of wondering if Fullasoul had an audio-only of this show, but I guess not. I don't want to take it from the DVD file because it's compressed.
