DBF's NPG Sampler So Digital Funk Bitch new release is out and I have some questions. Most importantly, where did these tracks come from? I first thought it might be from the 'NPG Records Sampler Experience', but Prince Vault only shows those tracks on there as being less than :30 each. It seems like it's from a radio broadcast. On his Segue, Morris mentions WNPG and the weather in the Twin Cities. I don't think this would happen if it was for a sampler. There's no mention of the source on the artwork at all.
As for a review of it, its good. I'm pretty sure this was taken from a cassette. It sounds like that DFB applied some hiss removal, but I'm not sure. The P. Control remixes have been released Officially, so why include them?
DBF#19 - NPG Sampler
1. P. Control (House Mix) 2. P. Control (Club Mix) 3. Morris Hays segue 4. Somebody's Somebody (Derick Hughes' version) 5. Madhouse Segue (voice-over playing over the intro of Asswoop) 6. Asswhuppin' In A Trunk (3:27 edit) 7. Ethereal Segue 8. Parlor Games (3:23 edit) 9. Free the Music

"P. Control" cassette from December 1995. See http://prince.org/msg/7/318315
5-8 are from the "NPG Records Sampler Experience" tape, handed out at some 1995 concerts. See also http://prince.org/msg/5/319042 . 3-4 maybe also.
Also from a tape.
Basically a compilation of various tracks that are only available on (rare) tapes. © Bart Van Hemelen

Thanks. I'll have to message Prince Vault about their times. Now I want the full tape!
I've checked the segues on the Revelations set and they match up. Though the Somebody's Somebody segue wasn't included in the track.
EDIT: Yep, the Morris segue was just tagged on to the beginning of the track. The same tracks. I hope we see the rest of the tape soon. [Edited 1/24/11 17:00pm]

Downloading it now. Thanks for the heads up. I actually have the NPG sampler tape that some of these tracks are from. But, it's sealed and I don't have a cassette player anyway lol. So I'm glad there's some rips floating around, especially if they've made the effort to clean up any tape hiss that may have been on there. |

This seems a bit of a mixed bag, I don't understand the reasoning behind inclusion/exclusion of tracks.
I have the NPG Sampler cassette given out at the '95 shows, but certainly no way to rip it in 2011! So I guess it's useful, but I did think they were already on some boot or another?

So this version of "Free The Music" is different from the version that was released on CD ?

Strange release. I got excited for a minute when I thought it would be the full 16-track Sampler Experience which I've been after digitally for a while now. Does anyone know where to find a good rip of this? I'm not very savvy when it comes to stuff like this - even though my cassette player ain't bad, I wouldn't even know where to start.
