I think it's a pretty underrated album actually. Some really catchy, funky tracks on there and then of course there's The One and Wasted Kisses which are both real gems if you ask me.

I think this was a VERY GOOD cd.
NewPowerSoul, Until You're in My Arms Again, When You Love Somebody, Freaks on this Side... and many of the other songs are just fun, catchy, good music to listen to songs!
The only song I really didn't care for too much was Funky Music.
Very underrated CD. I still have my original, and used to listen to it over and over back in 1998. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Not forgetting The One and Come on. Two great songs. I also think it's an underrated CD. Not brilliant but there's some great stuff on it.

Not an album i listen to very often, i like The One and Come On sounds good live. The Come On remixes are fun too.

Agreed. It's a groovy CD, and The One and Come On are cool cuts. I prefer Come On, but The One is is a nice cut.
It's crazy how we all have different tastes. So people will RIP you for liking this CD, yet they'll claim to love something that you dislike. lol Oh well... that's life.
I actually listened to this CD over and over and over on an 11 hour flight to Hawaii from Philadelphia back in '98.
I got into a bit of a "tiff" with someone who commented on a Jesse Johnson YouTube video, saying that Prince has been living off his name for 2 decades, and has put out only EMBARRASING material since 1987. lol
I was like... whatever, dude. Yeah, not all of it has been GRAND, but some of his overlooked works the past 23 have been fantastic!!! Prince is a victim of his own success. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I thought this was a groove filled album. Back when I bought it, I was unemployed, the album came out and it was no question that I'd buy it, my crazy a$$ ... LoL
Eat or buy a (NPG) album ... Like there was a choice ... LoL Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I know what you mean, but i don't care if people will rip me for enjoying something.
I also love another much maligned prince album, Emancipation. Imho is some of the best music he's done. It's a great achievement and should be recognised as such.
I think people dismiss it because Prince played it quite safe on that record, and put so much material on it. It's a shame because there are some outstanding songs, which would have been hailed as classic if released by another artist. I guess us Prince fans are quite spoiled.

Emancipation suffers from production choices. Redone with different choices would make it a great CD. But I think it is over looked and far better than most give it credit for. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I bought that one back in the day not knowing really what to expect or what it was. I enjoyed it more than some of his earlier 'classics' like Grafitti Bridge and alot more than Chaos and Disorder. Pretty good CD I'd stick in the midway point of his works. Very similar to the Come CD.
The standouts Wasted Kisses, Come On, Until ur' in My Arms Again, When U Love Somebod the best two are Freaks On This Side...The One (classic Prince Tunes IMO).
A couple stinkers like Newpower Soul. Not bad odds for 98' period Prince. It is no SOTT however enjoyable. Better than his last three releases for sure.... [Edited 12/30/10 11:51am]

Emancipation has some of Prince's best work! CD #2 is AMAZING from start to finish. Other than Sex in the Summer, I could listen to that disc over and over... from 2 thru 12.
And CD #1 has some fantastic songs, including Somebody's Somebody. That's one of my top 20 cuts by Prince. Has to be! It's everlasting!! CD 3 is probably my least fave, but One of Us is EPIC! I also like Style.
The man... for his body of work alone... is phenomenal. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

CD 3 is my favorite! Da Da Da, Style, My Computer, Slave, Human Body, Face Down....by far the best disc out of the 3 time flies.

Not my favorite but good funk. I just dont think its his best work. Would I pay $5. Hell yea! Its worth that plus some. The other night I was watching the NPS tour recorded in Oakland. Great show with a very diverse setlist of then new songs and classics. Mad Sex is the jam.

I always like this CD. The only song I didn't like was Push It Up which was awful. wasn't too crazy about the mix, everything is too loud and harsh
