Probably because too many idiots here on the org feel the urge to mention that there are lots of videos on youtube again.

Even if Prince didn´t mind that his videos are there, I think the record companies would still take them down, so I wouldn´t blame Prince alone, though it´s pretty clear that he doesn´t like the idea of his footage being on youtube, either. wink

There are tons of artists whose videos are taken down, and some of them are relatively obscure so I doubt that it´s always the artists who are behind these decisions.

Still sucks, regardless of who´s behind it.

The exact same story here. It's a shame Prince doesn't understand he has more to win than to lose, especially as there are a lot of more easy ways to listen to music illegally than Youtube.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

And BTW thanks to the internet, people are attending many shows, not just one. And some people who already attended his show ended up buying new tickets for 2/7 just because they read(on internet) good reviews on his 1/18 show. Internet is not dead and youtube is a good thing for Prince!

i dont believe for a second that having his stuff on youtube hurts him. People can easily use torrent to download entire albums. Then again Prince has never been a smart business man.

You’re missing the point. Prince doesn’t want the videos taken down because he thinks that it hurts his album sales. He wants the videos taken down because Google makes money off of YouTube and doesn’t want to share a cut of it with him on his terms. It’s a matter of principle.

Of course his terms are probably completely insane, and his principles are based in some other reality, and even if Google agreed with him he’d find some way to leave them hanging and yank the videos anyway.

I see the benefits of YT and enjoy using it myself, but if you cared so much about these videos, you'd get them some other way. Even if it was just saving them from YT.

YT isn't the source of anything, every Prince video on there has been circulating widely amongst fans for years, decades and you can get hold of them any way you like.

If Prince wants to be a dick about YT videos, let him - he's only hurting himself.

KoolEaze, sadly you're mistaken dude. It is predominantly the choice of the artist. As far as the record companies are concerned YouTube is fantastic promotion for their musicians. And..well, you may have forgotten, but little P doesn't have a contract with anyone anymore...! wink

^Ditto!

Why accept the crappy quality of YT?

There are plenty of bootleg dvds featuring Prince videos, PTV 1 & 2 being BY FAR the best of them.

Do some work and some hunting instead of having others do it for you. The results will speak for themselves.

Then how come that a lot of other videos are taken from youtube, too, where the artists had nothing to do with it? Especially artists who used to be (or still are) with Sony Music ?

A lot of videos by Sony,Jive Records or Universal Music are no longer on YT, and if they are, it is often just a matter of time until they disappear.

I know very well that Prince is no longer bound to a record company. But that doesn´t mean that his old songs and their promo videos belong to him now. Neither are a lot of other artists still under contract....but for some strange reason, their videos are no longer on YT and I get this message from YT that the video was pulled by the respective record company due to violation of copyrights.

A real Prince fans listens and hunts. It takes a while and u need some pretty good willing friends to hook u up, and like Vitriol said, it will work out in the end wink

It's cute how the newbies I speak to are all excited over some ill-sourced snippet of a YT video that they think teh veterans haven't seen b4, when there's a whole feature movie out there of the whole thing, lol. U can't blame them though cuz it's not their fault. I started from the same place when Prince vidoes weren't even heard of on YT, but wasn't that naive 2 think the big purple dogs haven't seen it yet.

Who told you about my little secret? Dammit - is nothing private on this friggin org?!?

I'm sure you're right in some of what you said. I don't know enough about it and really have no care for it, so i stand corrected to your superior wisdom. (Feel better?) But be very clear in the matter that it is P-dawg that doesn't want us watching him on YouTube and it's for one reason and one reason only - we don't pay.

The "Creep" episode defined him well - great song choice.

I think it's strange that he doesn't want ANYBODY, including HIMSELF making any money off his videos. Why make them? The guy has an ego to match his talent, I think that's what the problem most likely is. Add to that being rich and generally out of touch with "regular" society, and you get this guy who thinks everybody should (and indeed, has a moral obligation to) play by his rules, even if they don't know them. There are places on the internet to see ANYTHING you want, including his videos and concerts and there's just no way he could EVER get it all yanked. It's just a losing battle. He's doing it wrong.

I'm just saying...

No need to be so sarcastic and patronizing, it´s just a discussion about some videos on Youtube.I only speak from experience based on a few conversations I had with artists who used to be on major labels and who are no longer signed to them but their videos still get taken down even though the artists sometimes aren´t even aware that there are some promo clips on YT.

I´m sorry for calling you "dudette", that wasn´t directed towards you, I got you mixed up with a female orger.

A "real prince fan"? The measure of what a real fan is if they like the music. Period. Anything else is superfluous judgment which reflects negatively on yourself.

does anyone else feel like its their personal crusade to not have their videos on youtube or is it only prince and the npg? it's utter bullshit. he wouldn't be famous without fans. i don't see his logic. i mean MTV doesn't play music videos like they did yrs ago. we wouldn't need youtube if they still did.

i like the unreleased rare songs. i hate finding a good one then wanting to play it again and it's removed by npg. now the npg is going after ppl on facebook. BULLSHIT.

i paid for a boot of all his music videos(well except for a few recent ones made after this boot was made)

sometimes i think why do we put up with his shit? oh yeah cause he's so great.he doesn't deserve to have so many fans.

why do us purple hippies put up with all his shit? he doesn't deserve us and our hearts of gold. talk about taking it for grated. prince fans have a LOVE/HATE relationship with HIS ROYAL BADNESS. there is a spoiled huge ego bastard that goes along with the musical genius...
