What similarities? Prince is a talented artist, MJ is a pop icon. Prince is funky, MJ is funky but in a different way. Musically Prince is far superior to MJ. Personality wise, well, Prince is superior there too.

Seriously, my question is: In what areas do you compare the two? Certainly not musicianship, right? And what else is Prince besides a musician (songwriter, instrumentalist, vocalist, producer, etc)?? And on stage, I feel a lot more energy coming from Prince -- he expresses himself in SO MANY ways. Where else do we make the comparisons? Only one who comes close, IMHO, is Lenny Kravitz.

Are you telling me Prince couldn't sing 'Don't Stop (til you get enough) or Mike couldn't sing 'kiss'? I'll tell you different.

My God... I must admit I have been a Michael Jackson fan for quite a long period of time already, but I have never thought of comparing him to Prince. Prince is a musician, and a true mastermind, whereas Jacko obviously is neither of both.

You're SO wrong.Especially the mastermind part.Unless Prince intentionally means to sell next to nothing and appeal to less people than ever. Then in that case he's very shrewd.

There is no comparison between them.
Prince is an amazing musician, creator, instrumentalist, producer, etc
Michael is a dancer and singer who is totally slaved by media.
If I had to compare Prince with another greats, I would compare him to people in the level of Frank Zappa (what an amazing genius)

Wow. Prince can follow his own path and release whatever he wants. I am pretty sure the club brings him piles of cash. He doesn't have to oblige any record companies. He doesn't have to please anyone but himself. And it seems to me Jacko is only concerned with pleasing the crowd. Just look at what is happening with Jackson now. He is a slave of his own image. He doesn't mature musically. Prince has artistic freedom. Period.

Personally I think all the comparisons of both are tired, and mainly superficial. Musically they don't have a whole lot in common, unless you're a very casual listener.

Michael is coming out of his Sony deal soon, so you may be in for a shock which direction he takes musically, he may retire.Who knows?.People underestimate Michael and don't appreciate the level of input he has in his own recordings.i wouldn't ever say he's as good a musician as Prince, cause that isn't true, he's certainly his equal when it comes to writing and production IMO.

Michael survives easily on an album every few years, if he was a 'slave' of any kind, he'd be churning out rubbish like Xpectation to appease his fans and keep his fanbase intact. That he doesn't need to do.

Well i'm not a casual listener, Michael was big before Prince, and i've been a fan longer of MJ.

I'll always defend him, but out of respect to this site, i'll never start an MJ Vs Prince thread myself.I'll leave that to paranoid Prince fans.

Musically I think Prince could easily take on MJ . MJ can dance, Prince can dance, they both sing - but only P can play gutair and after seeing the over sentationalised ITV documentary (those in the UK) I think they are BOTH wacky and in their own worlds.

MORPHINE.(off Blood on the Dancefloor)

Written and composed by michael.liner notes state:

Drums: Michael Jackson
Guitar:Michael Jckson and Slash
Percussion: Michael Jackson, Brad Buxer and Bryan Loren.

I'd have never believed Madonna played guitar either til i saw her do it the other year.

And that says what? Michael is now the guitar player and drummer that Prince is? I have heard the song in question, probaly 90% Slash on guitar. And Madonna on guitar is a joke, and yes, I saw her play.

MJ is an once-great artist who has turned himself into a one-man freak show. The man (or whatever) is truly frightening. His music/talent is secondary now. Hey I like his songs...but its hard getting past his persona.
I feel very sorry for those kids.

As for Prince...he's weird too...after seeing that Kevin Smith DVD, he's clearly living in his own little Prince world (Chaka real mad...!!!) . But he's still about the music. Say what you will about TRC & ONAL...they are both artistic statements. He's still pushing and challenging his talent. I don't think Michael has done that since at least 1983.

As for Madonna...I'd still fuck her.

peace
