oh different tastes! I don't think Computer Blue was all that great or interesting a song...

But yes, I think the album version of Computer Blue is the lowest point of the Purple Rain album. Just seems like lame music and a lame concept, and a lame performance.

This is exactly how my mom feels about the song and I'm surprised she's not the only one on that little island, lol.

Don't u get the meaning though? I mean the soul and and the raw edge/passion within the song makes it a hidden guitar masterpeice from the movie.

It's great and when I first heard it from the movie, I didn't notice how short the lyrics were b/c I was listening to the music of the guitar. Very fascinating if u think about it. Doesn't even need the extra lyrics. And I get what OldFriends4Sale means with Prince must've adored Computer Blue b/c he played with it (4 fun, rehearsal, etc.) like crazy. One of his special babies he doesn't need to show off too much, if at all in that matter. It's scary he hasn't even touched the song in 13 years after the Purple Rain tour.

It would've been cool if Computer Blue and Darling Nikki was on a vinyl or vinyl boot together biggrin Having it as the same rarity and status of the UK DMSR promo.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I like the way the song is described in the script, but I just didn't get that from the actual song. But the extended version makes it better.

Sorry, this is so rude, but oh my fuck... I cannot believe "Jakeasaurus" cannot 'read' irony. His response drips of it, but it must be ironic, because he doesn't appear to appreciate the irony of the original thread... Is that ironic? Perhaps it is... who can say, "Jakeasaurus" (a play on some sort of dinosaur name which, perhaps indicates the longevity of 'Jake's' appreciation of Prince, who can say?).

IIRC, the dude got stomped on for bullshitting about something (20Ten?) a while back, and since then all he's done is gripe about on here by being unnecessarily sardonic with every single reply.

chill pill

Yeah. He was a dick before the ban, but now he's just a simple, sad troll.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

nod Yeah, I agree with u. It's like the little 3 minutes of the song weren't enuf. I had taken a total understanding off the song even more when I had listened to the extended cut. Heard of the Computer Blue EP? U may want to check that out if u haven't already, which I'm sure u have wink

The few other ones that are long and have differing parts though does sort of make teh song sound over-producy and muddled, so I'm guessing why he kept playing with it to get it perfect. Which is the 7 min one (although my fav is the Makings of Rain jam).

I have this--haven't listened to it yet. I'll put it on my playlist this evening.

He didn't like living alone
The house where he lived had many hallways
It was a long walk 2 his bedroom
Because 2 him each hallway represented an emotion
Every one vastly different from the next
One day while she was with him
He decided 2 name each one
She walked by his side, one hand on his thigh
No — she was sort of half a step behind him
Yeah, the grip on his thigh intensified
As they walked slowly through the corridor
He named the hallway "Lust"
And as they passed through the next one
He named it "Fear"
The grip she now loosened
So he walked faster
Her hands now trembling
She let dropped 2 her side as he wrote the word "Insecurity"
He looked into her eyes and smiled a demon smile
And quickly walked onto the next
Corridor after corridor
He named almost all when suddenly… he stopped
He picked up the word "Hate"
She was gone
So he picked up another — "Pain"

When I say "extended version" of Computer Blue, I'm referring to the version that contains the above speech. I've made my own 10:54 edit by trimming the beginning and crossfading the end with Darling Nikki (the alternate version). It's great! love

still my all-time favorite Prince track. I still think it's the best song he ever did. from a musician's point of view it's pure genius.

1. I was unkind to Bobby Z - I do know he was one of the stalwarts with Prince, with him since the start, etc... but I still think he was not quite the best drummer in the band.

2. I had been reading a biography of PG Wodehouse and Stephen Fry's autobiography... I admit to being far to elaborate in my composition... Jakeasaurus had every right to take the piss.

I completely understand why people find Computer Blue uninspiring, it is quite a formulaic song, in many ways... I just don't agree with that opinion. Right from the start, from Wendy and Lisa's moist verbal exchange, to the feedback intro, to the driving riffage - is that a word? it is now - to the lovely guitar solo. The extended version is a forerunner of many of the ATWIAD b-sides, especially America. It is simply fantastic... for those who haven't heard it, get over to the W&L myspace page and have a listen to the version on there.

You mean you don't think he was the best drummer in any of Prince's bands?

Because from 1977-1986 Bobby Z was the only drummer. 1999-Parade (noituloveRevolution) he was the only drummer for that band.

No, I don't think Bobby Z was the best drummer in Prince's band. He may have played the drums, but that doesn't make him the best drummer... Tom Brady could have played wide receiver, he wouldn't have been the best at it, but he might be good at it. David Beckham could play in goal, he may not be the best at it, but he might be good at it. Sarak Jessica Parker could play the lead part in a film, she might not be best at it, but she could do it. Bobby Z could play drums for Prince and not be the best drummer in the band.

Bobby Z was a good drummer. I don't think he was the best drummer in The Revolution.

You need to stop smoking CRACK !!! lol

Don't You get it?? the Revolution was the 1999 album-the Parade album THE ONLY DRUMMER was Bobby Z IN THE REVOLUTION. From 1977-1986 BOBBY Z was the ONLY DRUMMER for Prince's band. the band then wasn't like the NPG changing member every few years.
