Many of my friends who are absolutely not familiar with Prince really LOVE Prince´s version of Open Book. I think that song could have been a hit for him in the early to mid 90s.

And, of course, Electric Intercourse and Extraloveable, maybe Possessed, too.

Yeah that one. Truly a hidden gem with hit potential. Not so much the others tho' except maybe for extraloveable.

I also think that an early 90's album with Open book, Get Blue, I Wonder, Love thy will be done, I hear your voice, Nothing compares 2 U, the Question of U, Joy in repetition and We can funk on it, would have been a massive commercial ánd artistic success. smile

I think there are a lot of songs that could have been big hits.

Even from other protege acts.

I disagree.

Prince gave away quite a few hits to others. I feel for you, Love Bizarre, Nothing compares 2 u, a.o.

But I don't think there's a lot left in the vault, that is known, that would have had the same hit potential.

Prince didn't give I Feel For You away. He had released it as a single prior to Chaka Khan's version.

I think a lot of people here show their disconnect with today's pop landscape with threads like these.

Truthfully, I don't think any of the old outtakes could be released TODAY and be hits. Most of his true electro-pop sounding stuff was officially released (see: 1999), Prince has never been quite good at grasping CONTEMPORARY black music (often preferring to perform a consequently better old school type revue), and a lot of his outtakes are still way ahead of our time (think "100 MPH" or "Dance Electric" - these songs would go right over people's heads even today).

No. It was covered. Do you understand what a cover is?

Yes. 'Giving away' is another way of saying, for me at least, that he approved her cover.

Do you always feel the need to be an ass?

Do you always feel the need to inquire?

I think the majority of classic outtakes would make good album tracks only.

Of the unreleased and given away/side project tracks, had they been released in their relevant era as Prince singles, I think they would have been bigger hits that many of the chosen singles.

Unreleased potential hits in their day

1000 hugs and kisses

Uh-Huh

I wonder

The ones he should have kept and made singles.......

Girl

The Dance Electric

Nothing Compares 2 U

Train

Open Book

Okay, he didn't release it as a single. My point still stands... It wasn't given away as he had already released it.
