Prince blues compilation - ideas?

i started thinking about the idea of a Prince blues compilation (there's an interesting disk "Jimi Plays Blues" probably gave me the idea).

What would you put in it? Doesn't have to be strict blues but should be blues-influenced or have a basic blues structure.

The obvious ones:

The Ride

Zannalee

If I Had a Harem

Purple House (yep, covers are okay smile )

I'd also add:

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore, which seems like a basic blues structure to me (I'm not a muso)

and maybe the early versions of Kiss and Black Sweat (if we stretch it to unreleased trax...)

What else?

N.B. I'm talking about the musical genre not the lyrical content. (This note may seem superfluous but a similar thread on prince's gospel songs got derailed by people posting every song which had some spiritual content...)

What about "The Question Of U," live versions of this in particular sound very bluesy.

Temptation is blues-based.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Does it have to be written by Prince? Throw Purple House (Prince's version of Jimi's Red House) on there.

Did you read the original post?

Yeah, I considered Truth and Poor Goo - good additions.

Haven't heard "5 Women" - guess I'll have to...

Peach, also. one of the more obviously blues-based rockers he's got.

I wish there was a more extensive blues catalogue. I'm hoping for a blues-based album release sometime; something like N.E.W.S, except blues.

I guess you're right - it's just so T-Rex to me, that I don't think of it as blues...

Don't think so, but I'm happy to be argued into including them (2 of my faves wink )

Dark is also one of my all-time faves so I'll include it for sure, even though it's kinda borderline.

I guess if we're including Dark, we should also include Satisfied, no?

Use the Satisfied/Beggin' Woman track from the Indigo and you can kill two birds with one stone.

It's a great track

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

The slowed down acoustic guitar version of "Alphabet St". That has "Delta blues" all over it.

The "Witness" blues rock version could qualify also.

OK - it would be good to stick to more or less accessible songs (I don't have the Work yet wink ).

Listened to Calhoun Square again - it does seem to have a 12-bar structure, I'm on the fence there...

Thinking of including the song SOTT too as a throw-in. It's not blues but seems to reference the genre. What d'you think?

Any more? Are we dried up?

I made a blues cd....called it "Blues in Shades of Purple".....I included:

Joy in Repetition.. Live

The Ride

5 Women

The Other Side of the Pillow

The One, Question of U, Fallin (from Indigo Nights)

Sastisfied

On the Couch

Mellow

Man O' War (remix)

Purple House

Zannalee

Madrid 2 Chicago

Colonized Mind

Some of them were a stretch when it comes to blues, but it all flowed pretty well together.

Wish I had If I Had a Harem.....

Nice - not sure of all the choices (and I'm not a Man O War fan so I'd leave that out for sure), but interesting...
