NPG is wearing thin

Does Prince still call his band the NPG (despite altering the band line-up)? As he's used this name for around 20 years maybe it's time to come up with another name for his band for the new decade. How about Soulpsychedelicide? Any other suggestions?

yeah, Prince just works for me. I don't take notice to the band, unless I just call them Prince and the band, or Prince and his backup singers

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Hmmm....JB is back on drums, so it hasn't really changed.

Well, as long as Mr. Hayes in there then I don't really care who he has assembled in the band. Why are so many wanting the band to change. He has a new bass player and that seems to be working out well. Who do you guys want to see in the band???

I think only Prince calls them the NPG. Everyone else calls them "Prince's band," "those guys," or "Prince has a band?" I think if they form a cohesive unit, and stick around together for a while, and could release an album/attract listeners on their own sans-Prince, then they should get their own name. But a generic name for a revolving set of musicians is kinda lame. I thought it sucked that the Lovesexy/SOTT band was just called that. I liked them a lot, they deserved a name. Maybe Spooky's Electric Band, or the Camille-eons. HA!

You point out that NPG is 20 years old, and your solution is to use a phrase that is even older? Wacky.

They should just be called the "Welcome 2 America Band" or whatever tour he's on.

Using a name from one of his older, more obscure songs for a year or two isn't wacky but rather self-referential...sticking with the same name for a 20-year span is a bit lame though.

My thoughts exactly. I've been over the "NPG" for years now.

"Wearing thin"?... I think it had already worn thin years ago. He should have ditched the name after the original NPG broke up in 1996 IMO.

I agree with Boris - to me NPG means 90s WB era - D&P/prince and stripped down Gold/Exodus.

The bands after this have rarely been seen to be a solid unit behind or with Prince, and for years has been a revolving door that makes me care less and less to the point I don't even know/care who's in the band any more.

So NPG wore thin, but it's gone on so long, and the band is so transitory, I don't care what he calls it.
