during the whole show.

Very unusual for a Perfectionist such as Prince

Even listen to a Rolling Stones concert?

Back then they probably didn't have the electronic tuners where you could step on the volume pedal and tune silently.

And New Orleans is so humid with the heat and the AC your guitar no matter what will almost always go out of tune even if you leave it on the stand between shows.

Then add (by 1981 standards) analog chorus on guitar and synths with oscillators and you have a sonic party.
