Rock´n Roll Hall of Fame performance officially released

Don´t know if this has been mentioned before (couldn´t really find this news with the search function) but I saw a commercial on TV last night and they´re selling a CD box set with lots of RRHOF performances, and the clip showed a rather long snippet of Prince performing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and the guy in the commercial said some very complimentary things about Prince.

Maybe some of the completist collectors among you find this interesting, then again, you probably already know about this.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

That performance of Prince playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne was so fitting and appropriate because at the place where rock musicians are preserved and memorialized, Prince etched showcased his rock chops and paid tribute to George Harrison at the same time. However, I wonder why Prince's own performances of "Let's Go Crazy", "Kiss" and "SOTT" were not included in the HOF box set.

Because Prince didn't clear it.

When I want to show my friends how amazing Prince is, I play them the R&RHOF performance of "While My Guitar..." and that usually seals it.

To me, it is Prince at his most cocky, most entertaining and it showcases his enjoyment of playing. The way he just has fun with the guitar is amazing. What was supposed to be a group performance (with a lot of amazing talent... Tom Petty, etc.) turns into a complete showcase for Prince who kicks ass, throws his guitar in the air and then struts off the stage. UFB! Unbelievable!

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Since it happened, I've still to find the greatness everybody finds in that solo.

Prince has done much better than that, to my taste.

I'm not saying that this is a bad solo, I think it's a great solo, but i agree that there are better examples of his guitar work out there, it's just that they are not stuck on youtube for everyone to view.

I'm just listening to the performance of "The Ride" from 4DF's Open Sessions 2nd Sept '95, and it is fucking amazing, so many great solos out there.

^funny that the quote function used the early version of the post, when I sort of 'invented' the term 'amaziness' and then decided to change it. Weird...

Its a Prince solo that was done outside of his box, in an all star performance of a legendary epic song in tribute of a dead pop music god... for an audience that's not his usual peeps, that's why it's so great!

I understand, done outside his comfort zone.

NO one ever ripped up the stage at the HOF like that. Prince threw down the guantlet with no apologies. I cheered like he had just won the the heavyweight championship when I watched it.

As great as it was it wasn't off the cuff by any means. He was sent a tape & rehearsed the @#@ite outta it beforehand along with the choreographed throw of the guitar.

It was a great refreshing reminder of how powerful an entertainment force he can be... it was great seeing that shit when it aired.

So is it the version that actually aired? Because I remember seeing a thread around here about how the video posted from the DVD on George Harrison's site was mixed differently, with someone else turned up in place of Prince.
