I couldn't care less what Prince or any other artist looks like, if the music is good I'll be a fan.

One of my favorites back in the day was far from attractive to me, but I was a huge fan because she had the voice of an angel and her music was unique and innovative.

She's had a very successful career, would it have been more successful if she was more beautiful?

When Prince was getting huge he was more like a dirty pervert than anything else. It was not about his looks. it was about GREAT Music, sexual explicit lyrics, jerking off Guitars abd so on.

If he was ugly ore not (behind all the hair ) was not an issue. But i would say there where male popstars generally considered more beatifull than prince in the 80's

These days he seems more concerned about his looks, but you honestly can't say Prince is more popular now than he was before.

So maybe in the end it is all about the music???

for this straight guy it is anyway.

The fanbase would be drastically different.

Most people do think he's ugly actually. I'm not one of them but I don't know of too many people that would call him "gorgeous."

To me he always was good-looking (especially his face.) The only things I can think of that people might find ugly about his looks (that have already been mentioned) are some of his odd hairstyles, his different sense of style in clothes, his small stature, and some might just find him too feminine.

But if you really look at his face there is nothing ugly about it at all. His facial bone-structure and features are pretty much perfect to be honest (especially his eyes.) And he also has a great skin tone.

You might not like how small he is or how he dresses but I don't know how someone could technically think he's ugly...

as a heterosexual man, it's not hard for me to tell that he looks really good. Good looking men are competition, so men will always recognise good looking men.

Of course his confidense in both his looks and musical abilities did something about his way of thinking. You approach people differently based on your true personality and of course stuff like skill and looks. His videos and lyrics would probably be a bit less sexual. And him being short and thin, made him find strength in something others would look at as a weakness, and he did the androgynous thing. He would probably not do that if he was 6 feet. He is using his life as experience through his music, like most other real artists.

The only reason that I can think of misleading people to think he isn't attractive is his behaviour and style. It's confusing people and provokes emotions that people want to hide. Listening to Prince with others can sometimes be like watching high quality erotic HD movies with your family. Awkward? Yes! Does it make the music bad? No. It does make it a hell of a lot more interesting and sometimes very private.

this reminds me of the office episode where they were deciding whether Hilary swank was hot or not

Again, I was talking about the general public, not a small segment of starstruck, biased female groupies on the Org.
