^^ Well, there is another unreleased Revolution album too, Roadhouse Garden.

and most of the music if it's connected with Roadhouse Garden played on 6.7.1984 there was so much music created between 1984 - 1986 that they could have put together albums for the next 5+ years. Splash Go Roadhouse Garden Our Destiny and so many others

i have given this some thought and I have to say that as a preforming band there is was not much special with the revolution. Wendy and Lisa and Matt are all fine..*Wendy and Lisa know more about music that prince ever will* but I am not sure they bring or rather will allowed to bring enough to the table live that they could not be replaced.

W and L's true positives were in the studio.

that band plus the Sott band and pre revolution band were the only bands that really had that live presence.

"The Revolution" was a fun gimmick for its time, but it isn't necessary in 2011. Prince has since played with better actual musicians on stage, and the marketability of Prince lies in Prince himself.

Now if we were to argue that Prince needs a long vacation from recording studios and a producer, you'd hear no disagreement from me.

True, its like a mind once its been challenged and stretched-Prince was an insecure young musician then who needed inferiors around him. He's grown out of that. However, it is worth listening to from a marketing standpoint if WB is going to get involved and make it a big deal. That band was not viewed as a back up band to us when the movie dropped; i distinctly remember girls (closeted) being very drawn to W&L and the imagery of that band. The movie is something you cant discount when considering a reunion because there was a huge imprint on the era.

yeahthat

The Revolution had a particular vibe and energy that made them special. The question is, can they recapture it on a reunion tour? My money's on YES!

Release the Roadhouse Garden album. Promote it with a short tour, choosing more intimate venues (a la the ONA tour) so the need to cater to casual fans is reduced, and therefore more obscure and/or fan-favorite stuff can be played instead of just focusing completely on the hits.

I also LOVE the idea of the Purple Rain album being played LIVE in it's entirety, but only if they stick to the classic song arrangements: replace the "go, go, go" chant with the funky breakdown that's in the movie (with Wendy whispering, "Let's go crazy...let's get nuts"). drool

And Darling Nikki can still be played...just have Brown Mark (or a guest vocalist) sing the lyrics so Prince doesn't have to. thumbs up!

Definately release Roadhouse Garden and add the dance electric to it. That track, as performed by the revolution, would be wonderful.

Jeez, what a badly written article. Do they even realise Sheila E. has a connection with Prince beyond supporting on the Purple Rain tour?

As much as I love The Revolution, you can't really put them in the same category as these other bands, as they were simply the backing band for an artist who was very successful both before, and obviously afterwards. The Smiths weren't "Morrissey & The Smiths" and the Beach Boys weren't "Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys", you know? There's a difference.

Yeah...this^^^^^

There are prodigies, and virtuosos, and all types of savants that can PLAY great. That can PLAY circles around the Revolution.

But that inst what made them great. It was music itself. Not the PLAYING. It was the combined ingredients that made a great flavor.

Ever since they have been gone. There has been something that just hasn't tasted as good since. Whatever they added, it tasted soooo good.

A virtuoso can play all the notes of a great composition, but sometimes following rote instructions isn't enough.

Ha ha ha. Exactly, I think that Prince should take 2 years off of recording and just do live gigs, then do studio work with the revolution with a producer. That would pop off

I'm behind you on that too

And of course we are looking back at the band in 2010. Of course if they would have continued as a band they obviously would have gotten better. But no one is going to tell me that the noituloveR didn't jam. Wendy was the only difference and it didn't take them much long to mesh well. By the time the Parade shows were on they were pretty tight for a band switching from colder sounds to more organic jazz sounds. They were pretty good in duplicating the album sounds live

Now that i think about it if you brung W&L back with some unknowns (who looked similar to the rest of band) and called it the revolution people would buy in. Sad..but true. sorry Brown Mark lol.

I don't know I think Dr Fink is a visually familiar character too

BUT Prince fans even the average are pretty familiar with Purple Rain the movie

I find that most new fans go back to the earlier periods and get the music, videos, concerts etc so I think most Prince fans would be on the know with who the Revolution is.

And just throwing anyone in there would not bring the chemistry that the band had

My list would have Talking Heads on it.

Beach Boys, Carl's death in my opinion was the end of the original band.

Smiths easily could record new music, and I think people would want to hear what Morrissey and Marr could come up with.

Something like the Welcome 2 America shows, should've had musicians from different eras of his career play different shows. Maybe Prince will do the full length albums from beginning to end at some point, because they're guaranteed moneymakers, and could get away with charging people more to do it. It would be money motivated if he did do it, or maybe when he owns the master tapes, might decide to do it as a celebration.

Corgan's always seen himself as the bandleader in Smashing Pumpkins.

Sex Pistols have reunited with all the original members. Sid Vicious was a replacement.

The Replacements and Husker Du should've been on the list.

Pink Floyd will reunite if David Gilmour agrees to do it. Even though Rick Wright's gone, they had fired him 30 years ago, and Gilmour needed Wright in the late 80s so Roger couldn't do anything about Gilmour fronting Pink Floyd. It would prob. be a guest keyboardist like Steve Winwood, or Roger Waters' son, who's currently doing the Wall tour with his dad.

Kind of surprised Sly and the Family Stone was left off the list. I think if they reunited with the original members, there would be a big draw.

Steely Dan with the original band, which had Jeff Baxter, Denny Dias, and Michael McDonald.
