I'm 19, but I have no real memory of when I started liking Prince. I've lived in the Minneapolis area my whole life and Prince fanhood comes with the territory. I bought my first Prince tape with my allowance in 1989, but I can't remember which one...

Always had that latent curiosity...
I think it's my parents renting the PR-movie when I was somewhere around 10 years old
(without me actually seeing it). However, it wasn't until '98 or so, that I bought my first disc,
a secondhand prince.

Finally, a certain woman smile turned me loose, and I ended up buying and collecting
everything bearing his name.

My age is 19. I guess I've been living in the past for the most of my days, with a record
collection mostly spanning 60's 'til 80's jazz, blues, funk and soul.

I'm 21 and I've been a hardcore fan since I was about 3 years old. I don't exactly remember what it was that hooked me, but because of my Mom and Dad, plus my cousins and the fact that I was in Detroit (the PRINCE CAPITAL!!!), Prince was around alot, so it just stuck with me. I lived Prince, I inhaled Prince. I was the only boy in kindergarten CONSTANTLY talking about Prince. In 5th grade, we had 2 write our own short stories, I re-wrote a Prince biography from memory that I used 2 check out EVERY Tuesday when we went 2 the school library, all through 3rd and 4th grade. When I was 5, I had Prince birthday party, with Prince on my birthday cake, and a Parade era poster (which disappeared after the party), and those pictures are hilarious. Of course all through middle school and high school, people questioned my sexuality because I worshipped a man whose sexuality was in question amomg my peers, so those were hard years growing up. When I moved 2 Tennessee 2 live with my father, I met a teacher at Columbia Central High School who was as much a hardcore fan as I was!! B4 and after his classes, he would either have a Prince video clip playing, or a song on the cd player. There was always a Prince quote on the board also. Though I never had his class (he teaches Criminal Justice), I'm told that classroom discussions would somehow, someway turn in2 a disscussion about Prince. Of course, it was mainly him defending Prince, cause the students at that school couldn't see why we made such a big fuss about him. I'm back in Detroit now, but my little brother has his class now, and he says that nothing has changed. He's still keeping Prince's music and vision alive through his class and his teaching. Keep it up G.B.

im 19.. ive been hooked on his music ever since i bought diamonds and pearls when i was eight yrs old.. thats when it took off.. ive adored him for such a long time, and i just recenly (one nite alone tour, sweden) saw him live for the first time.. what a rush.. i think u all agree! that really spiced things up, and if possible, ive become an even bigger fan of him!

i dont have a single crappy cd in my collection.. its all the good stuff.. blues, funk, soul from the sixties up to the eighties.. just like deMatthijs ..i mean, who has the nerve to put britney spears next to prince, geez, what a discrase!!

im 19 and became a fan buying the very best of for my sister for xmas a couple of years ago. as ive grown up i accidently get into music then find out she loves it and has loads of cds of it. i looked on the cd and saw it had when doves cry, 1999 and purple rain and thought, yeah got most his hits on (naive!!) and bought it and as soon as i played it (copying it on her own PC without her knowing!) and i wanna be your lover came on i thought, oooh this is good and funky.

weirdly though i was searching for a song that kept saying vicki vale over and over so i figured it must be on the batman soundtrack and its batdance, but its weird cos my sister must have had it when she was a teenager and it stuck in my head my whole life without even knowing until i became a prince fan!
also the when doves cry video totally stuck in my head even though i must have been less than 10 when i saw it, it was the bit where he dances at the latter part that stuck in my head, thats pretty strong imagery to stick in your mind for no reason for years like that!

ironically prince hates the very best of and hated its release, but because i bought it and made a copy for myself he has had an extra 10 or so album sales and will obviously get more later on!

I'm 20 ...

I first started to notice Prince when Sexy MF and My Name is Prince came out.. He looked cool.
I have always known songs as Raspberry Baret and Purple Rain, but never paid attention to the performer...

My first album was the love symbol album, still one of his best i think.

I'm 16 joined the org when i was 15, liked prince when i first heard kiss. Bought me first prince album when i was bout 11.

What got me hooked was a program on late at ngiht called 'Dont Fade Away' or something like that. It used to be on at a dumb time somethin like 2-3am. I basically tuned in one night and this guy basically played 5 prince songs. Purple Rain, Alphabet St, Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Gett Off and Kiss.

I kinda remembered him from kiss, Mosty Beautiful Girl Ibn The World and vaguely alphabet street. But when i heard them all I was like omg these r so great... when i heard theguy say he was gonna play prince i instinctively knew to record it as well lol very mad.

Then i kinda borrowed 2 of 1 of my brothers albums (cos he liked him for a short while) Lovesexy and The Symbol. I was hooked and ended up buyin any prince album i mananged 2 find.

biggrin Glad i started when i did cos i never see 'em near me anymore
JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...
