Aside from the fact that Michael's grandfather's name was Prince Scruse. Katherine's father.

For the guys that don't like the fact that Michael's band jammed on "Beautiful Night", how do you feel about the fact that Prince has covered the following songs in the past:

I Want You Back

Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)

Billie Jean

I Can't Help It

How do you feel about the fact that they were friends, shot hoops with each other at Paisley Park, and traded rare James Brown footage with each other?

Just wondering. Prince and Michael are my joint two favorite artists of all time, and the animosity between certain segments of each's fanbase continually baffles me. What the hell is there to be mad about? The fact that the MEDIA pitted them against each other and they both played into it at times for the sake of hype and PR?

If you can't enjoy some music because of some retarded media-created "rivalry", then I feel very sorry for you.

This post was put up out of surprise...I dig the fact that MJ's band did this tune..Prince covered those tunes you mentioned way after 88 and they shot hoops maybe once..u make it sound like it was a regular thing...it wasn't..I'm not mad about anything where this post is concerned, and who says we can't enjoy the music whilst discussing MJ and Prince and the rivalry/admiration they had with one and other?

and..the the way Joe Jackson is today..it appears Prince Scruse may have had a few loose Scruse also!

Remember when Prince did Arsenio for the Symbol album? Opened with "My Name Is Prince" then Sinbad came out and was interviewed by Aresenio.

Sinbad pretended to be Prince:

Arsenio: You are Prince...how long before you'll be King?

Sinbad: As soon as...nah, I aint gonna say it!

The audience (packed with Prince fans) immediately started booing until Arsenio cracked a joke or two to calm them down.

My point...we can all sit here now and say how much we love both of them, but back in the day the majority of us were angry.

For those of you who were visionaries and loved them both back then...more power to you.

But the majority of us did not see it that way and should not be made to feel silly because of it. We had our reaons!

Well, apparently Prince was jamming on "The Way You Make Me Feel" in '89 according to a couple of people in this thread, but I really don't know why dates or timeframes have anything to do with anything.

They shot hoops maybe once? I've heard it was more than that. They hung out a few times in both the 80's and 90's, but again, it doesn't really make much difference.

I wasn't replying to you anyway, I was replying to the people that were freaked out by this like TweetyV6. Obviously you don't have an issue with or you probably wouldn't have posted it! lol lol

Prince Scruse was Katherine's father, not Joe's.

You make it sound like you were there, but the whole thing about P and MJ hanging out is gossip or media crap (I personally don't belive MJ could play any sports or any instruments), and even tho Michael's grandfather's name was Prince Scruse, MJ wasn't stupid, he knew people would speculate about Prince the musician not about his unknown grandfather, come on, most of MJ decisions involved publicity, even the name of "his" son.

MJ played b-ball in the "Jam" video. And as for them hanging out.... pretty sure Bobby Z stated this. So, call Bobby a liar if you want. What about them playing table tennis in the mid 80's when Prince visited him at Hayvenhurst? Did the media make that one up too? lol lol lol

Love how you put the word his in quote marks when it's pretty fucking obvious to anyone that isn't blind that Prince is his genetic son, as are Paris and Blanket. But whatever, be a hater if you want to.

As for instruments, of course he was not anywhere near as adept as Prince and he realized there was not much point playing things on his own records since he could bring in session players, convey the melodies and rough ideas to them to them and have them do a proper job with them. But this doesn't mean he couldn't play.

Here's a direct quote from Paddy Dunning, the owner of the Grouse Lodge music studio in Ireland where Michael was recording in 2007 with Will.I.Am.

Michael actually spent most of his time recording in Studio Two. He really seemed to like the sound of that room. What was amazing for me was discovering just how incredible Michael was at playing any instrument. He’d sit at the piano and play all the Beatles songs for us to all sing along to, or get on the drums, or play guitar. Michael was working with people like Rodney Jerkins, Will.i.am and other musicians, but the tracks he recorded were never finished. -Paddy Dunning

I suppose he's a liar too, right?

maybe Paddy was drunk..and PRINCE would never work with will.i.am and the only baby of MJ'S is blanket...too bad drugs were more important than them. He should have named the other 2 BETTY and Ford, could have given himself a daily dose of clues. what a waste. MJ did not play B-ball in that video..that was rehearsed and choreographed...I dig most of MJ'S music...and maybe one day P and M could have collaborated...that would have been nice.

As for Will - I guess you don't know that Will.I.Am rapped on stage with Prince in London at an Indigo2 aftershow in 2007, and at the Rio during the 3121 run in Vegas, and at the BET Awards. So there goes your theory.

I don't get what the big deal is - or why some "only Prince" fans are getting worked up about this.

It's been said time and time before that both these artists deserve all the props and respect they are given.

To me - who has been both an MJ fan and a Prince fan all my life - this was a nod to another contemporary. In the same way Prince has played several MJ songs during his live shows over the years. Nothing wrong with it - it's not Prince trying to be MJ or MJ trying to be Prince - it's just a nod to great music and great artists.

No more. No less.

check it out..MJ's band does "beautiful night" interlude during 88 BAD tour..MJ's idea? WTF?

The Bad Band played several songs during the interlude throughout the tour. They did Beautiful Night a couple of times. They also did The Beatles' Let It Be during the Liverpool show.

Sure they do. I'm mixed race myself and I'm a whole few shades lighter than the Indian side of my family.

Look at Rashida Jones:

She doesn't look any more or less African American than Prince and Paris. Yet I don't see people trying to say she's not Quincy's daughter.

OK, since you have Irish blood lol lol

But you theory isn't intact because you never gave any reason as to WHY Prince wouldn't work with Will - who is actually a musician - unlike other rappers he has worked with....

I don't see any reason why Prince would work with any of the following on songs (which he has done):

Q-Tip

Eve

Doug E Fresh

Chuck D

Tony M

Scrap D

but not Will.I.Am?

Ugh, I'm gettin' a fucking headache reading this damn thread....

Really, guys? You're gonna make a stink because MJ used a Prince song back in the 80's????? lol Guys, get over it. Move on. It happened over 20 years ago, and if Prince didn't give a shit, neither should you.

If you don't dig MJ, that's your thing. But if you're gonna start lynching people because they're doing covers...you need to get a life. And as if Prince never covered some of Michael's songs or sampled them in some way.The man's been covering Billie Jean, Shake Your Body, and others (as Militant mentioned) during his live performances for the last decade or so. I never heard anybody making a mountain out of a molehill about that. P and MJ were cool with each other, they were friendly rivals. Prince respected MJ and Michael respected Prince. I don't see why this damn subject is even brought up. You Prince purists need to take breather...chill pill

And now y'all bringin' the kids into this?? Honestly...you have no class. The kids and/or their paternity got nothin' to do with this so just leave them out of it. talk to the hand

Just a few weeks ago actually, private afterparty after one of the Welcome 2 America shows. No bootleg has surfaced yet unfortunately as I can't wait to hear his take on that classic, and vastly underrated song.

I hate when crazy ass fans or non-fans try to start fueds between people when there aren't/wasn't any between the 2. Like when people try to down Beyonce to put Aaliyah on a pedastal when it was clear before Aaliyah's passing her and Beyonce were cool with and had respect for eacother. This just goes to show you how much of a life people have. lol

Okay, my post wasn't to personally attack you. Trust me baby, if I wanted to book you, you would most definitely know it. lol

I was speaking generally about people starting stupid feuds between people where there weren't any. And yes I saw when Beyonce interviewed Aaliyah at an pre award show ceremony and they were laughing, joking and respectful towards one another. I've never hear Beyonce say anything bad against Aaliyah nor vice versa. You are right though, I am a crazy ass fan of Beyonce's but I unlike others know what to say out of my mouth.
