Prince albums you've changed

What Prince albums have you ammended/changed to suit your preferences?

I'm currently working my way through his back catalogue (I'm on the 1996 era at the moment)

Changes I've made to albums so far:

Controversy - 'Do Me Baby' I've shortened to 4:50 as I love the song but don't love listening to Prince orgasm everytime I listen to it.

Lovesexy - Single tracked so I can actually choose songs I really want to listen to i.e. Anna Stesia.

Graffiti Bridge - Only kept Prince songs on there and got rid of The Time, Tevin Campbell etc. as I felt they lowered the quality of the album

Love Symbol - Got rid of all the segues as I found they ruined the flow of the album

Come - Shortened the song 'Come' to 5:45 as anything after that I felt was unecessary

The Gold Experience - Got rid of all the NPG Operator messages (annoying) and changed 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' to the single version (as I think it's much better)

That's it for the moment... I'm sure there's more to come.

I'd be interested to know what changes you've all made to your collection!

mblevels

I've added Moonbeam Levels to 1999 and removed International Lover. I know a lot of people on here consider it an amazing track and I can understand why they would feel that way, but to me it really gets the flow out of the album. Just my personal preference.

Parade is a double album in my music library, I've added a lot of the outtakes and extended versions.

I've tried to include Kiss in Sign O' The Times, as I've always felt Kiss fits very good in Sign O' The Times' minimalistic concept, but it didn't work out because the drum tracks and falsetto parts are so different.

I can remember Ernest Sewell edited D&P so that it wouldn't include Tony M's rap, but because I never thought of D&P as a really good album I didn't take the time to do that myself. But I guess others on the Org have that version or have done the same thing.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

I dabble in this at times, just for some fun. Here's two of my better attempts:

Lotusflow3r - retitled 'Planet Lotus'
- Includes both "The Morning After" and "Crimson & Clover"
- Used the mp3 of "Colonized Mind" from lotusflow3r.com that has the full guitar effects at the end so it doesn't abruptly segue into "Feel Better"
- Added "3121", "Planet Earth" and "Guitar" as they seem like tracks that were recorded during the same sessions/same feel as most of the Lotusflow3r album ("3121" right before "Wall Of Berlin" sounds great!)

Rave Un2 - retitled 'Ultimate Rave'

- My preference for all the different versions:

1. Rave Un2 (Un2)
2. Undisputed (Un2)
3. The Greatest Romance (In2 - includes the guitar solo from the "Adam & Eve Remix")
4. Hot Wit U (Un2)
5. Tangerine (In2)
6. So Far, So Pleased (In2)
7. The Sun, Moon & Stars (In2)

8. Man O War (Un2 - segue included so it's one complete track)
9. Baby Knows (In2)
10. I Love U, but I Don't Trust U Anymore (In2)

11. Silly Game (Un2

12. Strange but True (Un2)

13. Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do (In2)

14. Beautiful Strange (Beautiful Strange VHS)
15. Prettyman (In2)

changed the order of the songs on Purple Rain to the order they go in the movie

got rid of the "NPG Operator" segues in TGE (i dont mind the segues in other albums but these are just annoying)

speaking of which, deleted "Wedding Feast"... -_-

added the EPs that go with certain albums TO those albums.. i dont remember what the EPs were called so i cant really give examples.

combined the two Madhouse albums

deleted the songs from Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic that were unchanged, so its basically a remix EP

added "the new master" of the song "1999" to the end of the album 1999

added "The Morning After" to Lotusflow3r, right after "Crimson and Clover"

changed "Starfish and Coffee" to start 2 seconds in, to skip over that obnoxious telephone ringing. im sure i made more edits like that but i cant remember. not very many though.

Excellent thread

1.Mix of my fav songs of For You/Prince '79: I still own both albums, but now I only listen to this mix I made a couple of years ago...I don't have to listen to With You or So Blue anymore, lol

2.Around the World In a Day: I've added "Hello" between the title-track and Paisley Park, I've replaced Tamborine for Girl, and I've added the long version of She's Always in My Hair before Temptation. 10 tracks.

3.Black Album/Lovesexy Revisited (Spooky Electric vs Camille): in one CD:

1.LeGrind

2.Cindy C

3.Dead On It

4.The Sex of It

5.Bob George

6.Super...

7.2 Niggs...

8.Rockhard

(10 tracks of 2 seconds of silence...lol)

9.Alphabet St.

10.Glam Slam

11.Dance On

12.Anna Stesia

13.Lovesexy

14.When 2 R in Love

15.I Wish U Heaven (long version)

16.Positivity

bye bye to EyeNo barf wave

4.Graffiti Bridge: Prince's tracks only and a new front cover (the front cover of the NewPowerGeneration single)

5.Emancipation: my fav 14 tracks in one CD...

I also tried to change A LOT of things of the 1996-2003 era but I realized that it was just too difficult so I gave up; at one point I was trying to mix the best of NPS and Rave in 1 Cd but it was worthless, really...

6.Musicology: I've eliminated Life'O the Party barf

I also made a box of 8 CD's of the best tracks of Crystal Ball mixed with the truckload of rarities/non-released songs that (sadly) were not included in CB, including the 1986 and 82-83 outtakes/rarities, and also the B-Sides official CD... music

My version of Parade:

Christopher Tracys Parade

New Position

I Wonder U

Alexa De Paris (7" edit)

Under The Cherry Moon

It's A Wonderful Day

Girls and Boys

Sexual Suicide

Life Can Be So Nice

Venus De Milo

Power Fantastic

Mountains (extended version, but faded out at 6:33)

Do U Lie?

In A Large Room With No Light

Love or Money (edit)

Kiss (extended version, faded out at 5:05)

Anotherloverholenyohead

4 The Tears In Your Eyes (Live Aid video version)

Sometimes It Snows In April

All My Dreams

This version 4 me is killer! Songs like Sexual Suicide and It's A Wonderful Day were thrown in cuz I know Sexual Suicide was in an early draft of "Under The Cherry Moon" and "...Wonderfu Day" is in the movie. In A Large Room With No Light just fits the album perfectly in my opinion. The Live Aid video version of 4 The Tears In Your Eyes is so beautiful and the way Prince, Wendy, and Lisa harmonize and the overall atmosphere of the song is a perfect way 2 go in2 Sometimes It Snows In April. This is the way I feel Parade should have been cool

And my version of Come:

Interactive

Come #1 (Glam Slam U. version)

Endorphinemachine (segued from Come #1)

Space

2morrow

Acknowledge Me

Phereomone

Loose

Papa

Pope (from the Dawn 4.1)

Race

Dark

Love Sign

Letitgo

Dolphin (from Come Original Test Pressing)

Come #2 (album version)

Graffiti Bridge - I took out all of the non-Prince songs

prince - I took out the segues

Emancipation Disc 3: I took out La La La means I Love U and Da Da Da

3121 - I took out Beautiful Loved and Blessed

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

this used to be a major passtime of mine. usually replacing things with longer versions, adding tracks, based on recording dates, etc. lots and lots of anal retentive rules that really didn't mean a damn thing. I could go through a spindle of 100 discs like nothing if I was working on some multi-disc "Hits" with my own home-made .wav edits or a 1993-1995 "Welcome 2 the Dawn" project. then, one day, I just stopped. maybe it was when I got my iPod. I'm actually now more inclinded to just listen to albums, whole albums even, the way they were released than I ever was before, which from what I understand is the opposite of most people. I've barely ever made a playlist on the thing.

I did this all the time back in the day when I had to put my CDs and LPs on tape to listen to them in a Walkman or in the car (pre-car CD players!). Yep I'm old. sad

I would mostly add the remixes and b-sides and insert an outtake.

I had a Purple Rain soundtrack tape that went along with the movie's sequence (LGC ext mix, etc).

With CD burning these days, it's so much easier to change up album sequences and stuff.
