Tracked Version of Anna Stesia

How do I get a clean tracked version of Anna Stesia? I have the Lovesexy, but it is one track. I'm not really interested in tracking the CD myself. I just want to download a clean version and put it on my Ipod because it is my favorite song and it is frustrating not to be able to listen to it. Someone gave me a tracked version of Lovesexy, but it sounds like crap. Thanks

Hey Donny:

I have a great version of it tracked... Here's how...

I pre-ordered each and every one of Prince's releases on SHM Mini LP CD from Japan. (they're now Sold Out).

While "Lovesexy" and "Sign O' The Times" are curiously lower in volume than his other albums, it does show a marked improvement in sound on the SHM CD.

I know it's chic to pretend there isn't any improvement in sonic quality because that would save the cheapos a lot of money, but there really is a difference - - particularly in things like "Dirty Mind", one of my favorite Prince albums ever.

So, the issue with this SHM release is that the songs were NOT tracked and also presented in one continuous-sequence track. HOWEVER - I tracked this SHM CD myself using Apple's ProTools on my MacBook Pro. I did a nice job.

"Anna Stesia" is one of my favorite Prince tracks and I'm one of these dorks who likes to make my own Prince compilations for the car and the gym, so it sounds nice.

All recent European pressings of Lovesexy should be tracked.

And please, BUY NOT DOWNLOAD, officially released/commercially available music.

^ This.

If you buy a new copy on CD from the UK or Germany etc. it will be tracked.

(European copies have been tracked since the mid nineties)

Take a black permanent magic marker and color in all of the disc surface that doesn't contain the Anna Stesia bits, then rip the CD to iTunes.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I bought a German tracked copy off Ebay for $15.00 so you should be able to find it for a decent price.

You just have to be careful if you're buying it second hand as it might be an old untracked version. If you buy it 'new' then you know it will definitely be tracked.

Tracking Lovesexy is not that difficult. I did it in about 2 hours using GarageBand and it isn't as bad as it sounds.

time flies.

Just need to avoid the classic fail that Warners always seem to make... which is to begin the opening keyboard motif of the song with the closing keyboards from Glam Slam. I always get annoyed when I hear that mad

I've posted this a few times over the years, but it keeps coming up. You can make a tracked version of Lovesexy within iTunes. Here's how:

• Put in the single-track CD

• Single-click on the song title within iTunes

• Get Info

• Name the song "Eye No"

• Enter the start/stop time for the track under Options

• Hit Enter

• Rip the CD into iTunes. It will only rip from the start time to the stop time you entered.

• Repeat for every track, changing the name and start/stop times.

You're going to rip the CD 9 times, and you'll end up with with 9 single tracks. This does not take that long. Here are the start/stop times I made many years ago - they work perfectly for me but feel free to tweak them.

Eye No 0 - 5:45.05

Alphabet St. 5:46.1 - 11:24.5

Glam Slam 11:24.5 - 16:29

Anna Stesia 16:32 - 21:28

Dance On 21:30 - 25:14

Lovesexy 25:14.5 - 31:04.35

When 2R In Love: 31:04.45 - 35:03.5

I Wish U Heaven 35.03.5 - 37.47.5

Positivity 37:47 - 47.03

Hope this helps. I'm sure there are much more high-tech ways of doing this, I just had iTunes so I used that. Orgnote me if you get stuck.

Why rip it 9 times? You can just do it the same way you make a ringtone. Rip the entire CD as WAV and then convert the time frames above into AAC.

The same end result . . . my point was you have to rip/convert one source 9 times, and these are the times I found work best.

I guess I can finally unwrap and listen to that tracked copy of "Lovesexy" I bought in the early 90's.

Dang, I was SURE that would be my retirement fund.

All German(includes UK sold CDs) copies of Lovesexy after a 1993 repressing were tracked. The tracked CD art still says "Songs are in a continuous sequence" on it, but the catalog number on the back of the booklet(upper left corner) is non-italicized versus the non-tracked copy which has the cat # in italics. If you want a Lovesexy CD with fades between the tracks, you need the US Promo disc.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I ordered the German CD on 2 occasions and they were both continuous. I now have 3 continuous tracks, which is why I figured out a solution on my own. I was not about to buy a 4th copy.

Did you buy them used? Because I got my tracked copy years ago new off of Amazon.co.uk. Brick-and-mortar stores in the US a couple of years ago could only get tracked German copies for their shelves as the US pressings went out of print for a while. The import prices were the same as the domestic CDs.

Nope, not used. I got them from a link posted here during that time (late 90s?). No biggie, I have them separated into individual tracks.

I have to say, my enjoyment of the album increased exponentially with individual tracks! Most played songs: Anna Stesia and I Wish U Heaven.

That's a drag if you wanted the disc for completist's sake.

As much effort I went through to make my own tracked copy back when the software was really basic and then hunting down a real tracked CD, I still tend to listen to Lovesexy from the first note to the last. Prince really did a fantastic job of creating a cohesive flow on that album - I dig it as a whole.

Still, for compilation mixes, it's nice to have the split tracks.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
