Prince and MJ

As a music appreciator that enjoys both artists I have always wondered why MJ fans dis Prince and Prince fans have disdan for MJ. Please do not give me the they were popular during the same time argument because I never here Stevie Wonder fans disrespect Sly Stone and Marvin Gay or vice versa. I actually appreciate both men and the contributions they have made to music although I am more partial to Prince because his musicianship and songwriting touch me on a more personal level. Moreover Prince was the bridge that got me into Sly, Stevie, The Beatles, Miles Davis and countless others. Yet I cannot downplay my appreciation for MJ either, seeing as though I spent a great part of my childhood in the eighties MJ was the soundtrack to my youth (I wasn't mature enough to appreciate Prince at the time). I was reading Miles Davis' autobiography and he spoke about the respect he had for both musicians and although his love and deep respect for Prince garnered a higher overall rating than MJ, he did not downplay Mike's importance. After reading Miles' opinion it made me think that if a guy of his stature and greatness had that much respect for both, then why don't there fans respect their counterpart?? Prince and MJ are arguably two of the greatest live entertainers that ever lived. I have seen both countless times and the never cease to amaze me. Their impact on the musical landscape is unquestionable from being the first black acts on MTV to being the most prolific artists of the 1980s. Simply put I have respect for both artists and the contributions they have made to music. We are talking about the two people that have had the greatest impact on the music of today. Outside of Prince and MJ who has come about of greater importance in mainstream music in the last 25 years??

Elvis Presley i would say.
i grew up on his music along with MJ,but b4 i saw the Black Or White, all was in the house was mum & dad's love 4 Elvis & all the records.

he broke down the social barriers as far as sexuality (with his 'controversial' movements at the time) & was in a way,the 1st ever manufactured pop star.
with others writing the majority of the songs,a manager Col Parker running the whole deal.

But his voice...American Trilogy still gives me goosebumps, his cover of Polk Salad Annie is ultra funky.
& if u get the chance 2 hear his renditions of "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" & the beatles' "Something" . . . .just beautiful nod

To me, nothing much compares to Prince. Lenny Kravitz comes the closest, I believe. Michael Jackson falls far behind. Maybe if I appreciated dance a bit more, but it's Prince's music I dig most, in addition to his songwriting and performance skills.

I dig both these Cats.I think they are both Musical Genius&Highly Creative.I also think they can do much better work than they have done.they could easily dominate again if they truly wanted to.

MJ was cool, he did create excellent music but he will never get back to what he was about, A Black musician who with Prince helped the introduction of a new type of music to the masses.

Hate is a strong word to use against MJ, maybe it is true but how can someone respect an artist who has been involved in so much scandal, child abuse and changing the colour of your skin being only 2 of the many situations we here about.

There is a programme on tonight on ITV at 9pm which from the clips I have seen makes him out to be even more strange than I excpected.

Prince is strange but we love him for his differences, his aren't changing colour, or surrounding himself with young Children. He still has the respect of many other artists and people do appreciate his great talent, music!

MJ is just strange. He is on a totally different planet and scares me, not just how he looks but what he could be doing.

Thriller was great but now the thrill has gone caution has set in. He really is strange!

MJ is the devil, can't you see? Aliens exorcised the cute, flat-nosed, chocolate brown little kid from 'ABC'out of hies body and occupied his body. MJ is in contact with E.T., and it is no joke that he's secretly in love with Drew Barrymore. He hates the fact that Drew has recovered from her weirdness, you see what good a marriage with Tom Green (who?) can do...? Michael is on a mission! Now that human-cloning has become physically feasable, he will clone us. But this will be done in a specific manner: every white man's clone will be black, and vice versa. And some point MJ will not remember the lyrics to 'The Girl is Mine' anymore and this is when shit will start hitting the fan...brown shit! He'll be no longer the lover, he'll be the fighter. McCartney's days are counted! Baby's will not only be dangled over the balcony, they will be tossed down. MJ will start tossing down black & white clone-baby's to please his freaked out fans downstairs. While he is doing this he is singing, yeah you guessed it: 'Black & White'
Where is Prince while this tragedy is ocurring in our streets? Prince is in Chanhassen , working on his latest instrumental album, 'Disappointments'. Meanwhile he is trying to figure out how that damned-MJ website works, there are gloves and socks for sale, rabajas solden...

Okay? MJ is a freak show!
